What's your favorite pistol to shoot?

All of us have a favorite handgun to shoot at the range? Out of all the ones you have, what is it?

Then you are doing it wrong
Elaborate?

I'm not "in to" guns. I carry them as tools.

I used to work as a machinist. There's way more money in my toolbox than there is in my gun safe.

I went out of my way to buy the best possible tools that I could afford because it made my living with them but when I wasn't using them I didn't give them a second thought.

My guns are the same. I didn't go out and buy the most expensive guns that I could afford but I put a lot of research into everything in that safe.

But if I'm not using my guns I don't give them a whole lot of thought

You will find that many of us have a passion for them. That's also why we stick around on these forums to talk about things.

I've been into firearms for 30 years, and have owned just about everything at one time or another....

I always have a favorite, and always have a "next gun" to go buy :)

And, I'm not the only one on this forum...

What a great question.

My favorite, and I am almost afraid to mention it, is a Taurus TX22. Yes, a Taurus.

After fixing some initial feeding issues, it now runs just about anything. For a plinker it can’t be beat.

In that case, I like this one. It often got used up close and personal. Canister...blood guts and hair everywhere!

shoulder holster or OWB holster?
I like all my handguns, but two that always make me smile are my Ruger Super Single Six from 1968 and a 1969 Old Model Super Blackhawk .45LC.

Not only are they good shooters, but I love the sounds they make while loading, cocking, and hearing the hammer drop.

My Canik TP9SF with some trigger upgrades is my favorite range gun. Just got a TP9SFX & will put an optic on it since nobody makes the rear sight I need for it. If it shoots the same with trigger mods I'll sell it. If it shoots better I'll sell the TP9SF. I think my brother wants one of them.

Since you seam to like Canik guns, may I ask if you know a good 9mm model with 4" barrel
I just aquired 2 Smith and Wesson in 9mm
Shield plus with 3.1 barrel and mo 2.0 with 4.25 Barre. Since I have one more p2p I am thinking to get something reasonably priced yet still a good quality with a 4" barrel.

I'm mostly familiar with the TP9SF or SFX models which have a 4.46" or 5.2" barrel. Canik makes a DA/SA model with a 4.07" barrel called the TP9DA but I've never tried one. Best trigger mod I know of is one of the Freedomsmith triggers. Fairly easy to install & it's adjustable so you can take out all the pre-travel & over-travel you want. Stock trigger break is crisp & slightly more crisp with the Freedomsmith trigger. About $80. Feels great after it's adjusted. Next I put in a reduced power spring to drop the pull weight a little. From Galloway Precision. $21. Then I put in a reduced power spring under the firing pin plunger block from Cajun Gun Works. As you pull the trigger the trigger bar pushes against the plunger & it moves & unblocks the firing pin so it will fire. It's a stiff spring & you feel the creep or stacking as you pull the trigger. This upgrade lightens the trigger pull & makes it smoother. But, the Freedomsmith trigger eliminates the pre-travel so you might want to wait on this mod for last & see if you need it. I got my TP9SF One Series for $299 at Academy Sports I think 3 years ago. Maybe 2 1/2. Now it's $399.99 but comes with 2 magazines instead of one. If you have an Academy Sports & Outdoors credit card it's 5% less. Sometimes they have sales. Scheels has them for $379.99. Oh, I should mention "Canik Thumb." The beavertail hammers my thumb joint & it's bruised & bleeding by 50+ rounds so I finally ordered a Hogue slip on grip which should be here soon. It goes up the beavertail & I hope reduces the hammering on that thumb joint. SKU # 17600 but I can't say it will work until I try it.

Thanks, I am in NJ so a local dealer is the only choice for me. Otherwise the FFL transfer fee pretty much kills any deal. I see a few people praise Canik so will look and see what I can find if I decide to add one more gun to collection 😊.

Caniks are very good guns.

My favorite pistols to carry and use for training and shooting matches have been my Wilson Professional in 9mm for the previous 10 years, and my Wilson EDC X9 in 9mm for going on the last three years:

Then; someone showed me a Canik!
It was my Rival Darkside; but it wasn’t quite mine yet.
I checked it out at the LGS; the trigger pull was great; and the trigger reset was unbelieveable! Still, I held out (cause I WAS a gun-snob). So I went home and searched online that night; trying to find out about Caniks. When I couldn’t find the first negative review on the Rival Darkside; I went back the next morning and bought it.

I shot the Rival that Saturday at the first IDPA match I’d shot since before covid; a bit over three years. Low and behold; shooting a new gun I’d never shot, in the first match I’d shot in over three years; I came in third place overall. DAMN; there’s something to these Caniks!

Next, I decided that I wanted one just a little shorter for carry, but one that used the same flush-fitting 18 round mags as my Rival; so I headed for my most favorite LGS.
When I got there; the only Caniks in that case were using their 15 round mags, and I didn’t want them; so I was leaving the store. Then I happened to look down in the bottom of a glass case that’s usually 1911 territory only; and saw a couple more Caniks; but they looked “different.”

They were the Signature Series Limited Edition pistols in “Miami Days” and “Miami Nights;” and they were just the right size! But damn; they were quite a bit “different” in the finish department! I cyphered on that for a bit, and decided that, since I was carrying it concealed, and no one would see it (except for the potential bad guy, and hopefully he wouldn’t be seeing it for long); I bought the damn thing; the Miami Nights:

After a few weeks of good-natured ribbing by all my shooting buddies in the IDPA community around here; I decided to see about getting the same pistol; but in a more austere finish. So I went back to the other LGS that I’d bought the Rival from; and bought this one that’s the same model and size as my Signature Series one; but in a “plain brown wrapper:”

Bottom line; Caniks are an unbelieveable value for the $$, and my $3000.-$5000. Wilsons are staying home while I use my Caniks for match, training, and carry duties! 👍👍

Since I’m still a FNG around here; I thought that I’d make the occasional post offering a bit more detail; so y’all can see that I’m just as crazy as the rest of y’all are! 🤣
