What are you listening to right now...

Slightly Off Topic But I Think It's Funny

In 1995 my father died. I inherited a few thousand dollars and I decided to spend at least part of it on something I could keep for the rest of my life and maybe pass on to my kids.

I bought a Kenwood Bookshelf Stereo from the BX on Peterson AFB.

It cost $1000 bucks and for its time it was a good quality system. I still have it and I still like the sound.

In 2020 the VA gave me a pair of Phonak hearing aids.

The sound quality on my hearing aids is better than my Stereo.

I listen to Dark Side of the Moon on it and I can hear Every Single Note. I can understand every word the people talking between the tracks are saying.

Edited to add
What I find really interesting is it even though the music is basically playing inside my ears the sound quality is good enough that it actually creates resonance and spatial separation between the two "speakers".

Maybe I'm weird but I think it's funny that my top of the line Kenwood was outclassed by a hearing aid.
That's pretty awesome!!
I bought a Bose Sound Dock for use with our I Pod. It's about 12 inches wide by 6 inches deep. I think that I paid around $300 at the time. That was back in 2004-2005. When I first saw it I couldn't figure out why it was so expensive? I had my I Pod with me and the sales person plugged it in and cranked up the volume. Now I knew why and bought it without hesitation. Later on they came out with a portable one that had a both a cord and battery. I bought one of those too, one for the house and one for the garage. My wife also bought me a set of Bose ear phones. The sound quality between those and the one's that came standard with the I Pod is night and day.

Bose stopped making the sound dock and my first one crapped out a few weeks ago. But I was lucky enough to find a company that sells and rebuilds the sound board. So I ordered one of those and I'm back in business. It's pretty hard to beat those old Kenwood or Marantz stereo systems though. But it's just amazing how far technology has progressed over the years where these desk top systems sound just as good and are about as loud as you'd want to get. The sound out of our I Mac computer is pretty damn good too. Which makes watching and listening to those YouTube video's of our favorite rock groups amazing.

This Album needs to be listened to in it's entirety.

Indeed that's a great album along with Dark Side of the Moon, I've got both.

When I retired I bought myself two retirement gifts out of my retirement money. A Benchmade Bugout. I tell people my wife bought the Bugout but since we don't have my money and her money and it's all our money it's the same thing.

Tool Wood Blade Knife Hunting knife

and a Bose Mini Soundlink 2. My rationale was I may never have this opportunity to get a good sound system that will last me for the rest of life again (same thing I thought in 1995).

I was really surprised I think we only paid $150 at Costco for the Mini. It certainly couldn't have been more than $200. I just went and looked they're selling for $199 on Amazon.

It's about half the size of a carton of cigarettes (which probably cost about the same) and the sound fills our home. All the music that I listen to regularly is on my phone and I can connect it to my phone from anywhere in the house. I can also run my TV sound through it. It's wireless and has no moving parts. So it should out last me..

The only disadvantage to me is it's not really compatible with my hearing aids. If I'm listening to anything on the sound link through my hearing aids my hearing aids just level out all the sound and it sounds like somebody's talking to me from a tin can.

Yes he is. To some degree "The Eagles" brought some life back to Winslow, Arizona. Other than that there's not much to see or do there. Maybe the La Posada Hotel? The Painted Desert and Petrified Forest are the nearest tourist attractions and both are about an hour's drive away.
