My experience with the Single Shot is limited. J.D. Jones, custom barrel maker for the Contender, lives not too far from my daughter. A friend of my son-in-law's blued some barrels for J.D., and when he and some more of his friends learned I was a handgunner, they gathered up about three frames and a box full of barrels. They started me of with a .30-30 barrel and we went up to the .45-70. The .45-70 was loaded with 500gr. cast bullets that had been wrapped with Teflon tape in place of bullet lube, then sized. Don't remember what the powder charge was, but that was a handful of pistol. A 500gr bullet at any reasonable velocity KICKS.
