The topics of politics is allowed again on the forum - provided people behave.

The rule of "no politics" had previously been instituted when there had some fights breaking out.

Interesting that many here share the same beliefs, yet disagreements STILL break out. Please realize that members here CAN disagree and talk and discuss things WITHOUT calling the other person an insulting name. That was starting to be a large problem, even among some regulars here.

That just makes the name caller look like a.... Well, a jerk...

If you just get so upset - walk away from the screen before you start posting insults.

Anyway, please try to keep political topics in their own thread. Sometimes they pop up in totally non related threads - and then the thread gets derailed totally.

Now, if things get out of hand again, we'll have to revisit this.

Thanks.

I have to confess SB that when you work on cars enough profanity can become second nature. "Why won't this &%$## thing go back together? "I can't get this &%$## thing apart." "Who the &%$## designed this &%$## thing?" "&%$## this, I'm done." "I gotta' be outta' my &%$## mind". "What the &%$## did I get myself into?" "Ow my &%$## fingers."
Oh yes,. I, too, have had my moments in the world of profanity. I imagine there are very few people who can honestly say they have never uttered any such words. Smack your thumb with a hammer that misses the nail you are trying to drive home and I'll bet you're not going to say, "Oh gee, that really hurts".

Yes, couldnt agree more. I did 5 cars and one MC and the "colorful" language from the garage and cellar were constant. Dont believe me? Ask my wife and kids!

When I work on vehicles minors are not aloud with in ear shot of me. At the the barn and every where else I follow grandpa's rule. " damns and heel are okay just don't talk vulgar,"

My grandfather had the old fashioned mannerisms of expressing sudden bursts of anger and frustration.
When he shouted out “dat burned it !” We knew he was serious. Never understood the reasoning or morphology behind it. But it works for me.
When he wanted to call someone’s bs he’d merely say “awww hhhhhhhhheck!” and give a chuckle.
Much of this stuff stuck with me. My grandfather was a unique person that I rarely ever saw angry. Though I have been told by one of my cousins who did not spend his summers with him, that he could be a real dick! I let it bounce off. My grandparents never laid a glove on me but they had this unique way of explaining how badly your wrong was while making you feel like crap! Corporal punishment was however in my fathers hands which was rare. Most of the time he’d only have to tell us to go cut a switch!
It worked two fold too! Last time I felt that sting , I cut down everything on the property capable of whooping my butt! “I see you, m* f* sum-bitch and you ain’t gonna live long enough to whoop nobody’s arse again!” I thought dad would be pleased that I pruned the yard.
Never did figure out how to get rid of leather belts after that!

Yeah me too, but like I said sometimes it's just out of habit. Working on cars can at times be pretty stressful. You just want to get it done and over with then be back on the road. Then there are those jobs that take a lot longer than anticipated. Not too mention that at often times you're working in confined and hard to reach spaces all bent up like a pretzel. But in the end it's very rewarding especially when at car shows to be able to tell people that you did all of the work with the exception of machine shop work yourself.

Just recently (Easter Sunday) I rebuilt the fuel pump on one of my old cars. I started the car, it ran for about 5 minutes then quit abruptly. It took me about 15 minutes to figure out what was wrong and about 2 1/2 days to fix it. It's got a big old straight eight engine and the pump was hard to reach. It's a dual action pump, one pumps the fuel, the other is for the vacuum controlled windshield wipers. The shaft that holds the rocker arm in place worked it's way out of the housing. I was lucky that the pump quit while the car was still in my garage. Fortunately I had another unit that I bought a long time ago and was able combine the parts into one good unit. It looks like a pretty simple job except the new diaphragms have to be pre loaded and there are two really strong springs working against you as you put the housing back together. I had to practice using the old unit and old diaphragms several times until I got it right. Then there's another strong spring behind the rocker arm that works against you when installing the pump back on the car, not to mention getting both the fuel and vacuum lines aligned without stripping the threads. This was definitely a four letter word job at times.

Being 70 I don't work on my cars anymore, they are modern ones. But I wouldn't mind getting a 69-72 GMC 4X4 or Chevy Blazer

Those are in high demand, I wouldn't mind having one myself. They're pretty simple and relatively easy to work on. Not too mention a pretty good looking truck. I doubt very much that I'll ever stop working on vehicles unless I'm disabled or it's something that I don't have the equipment to fix. Especially my antique cars. I just do not trust leaving them with anyone else. I don't plan on taking on any more restoration projects and I'm perfectly happy with what I've got. Besides I don't have the room for another vehicle and it would just be another vehicle to register, maintain and insure, Jay Leno I'm not.

I'm going to participate as little as possible. Maybe even not at all..............
I agree.
The appearance of Anti-gunners on gun forums is picking up. One way to win is to divide the opposition and attack each one separately. You know, "wood vs. polymer", "brown vs black", "revolver vs. pistol", "reasonable vs. constitutional", etc.
There are also those from more restrictive areas who propose their locale's rules for every locale. These argue from "what I'm used to".
There are those who are narcissists who proposed "one size fits all" and, of course, it's their way of understanding things.
There are those who weren't double-majors in college who ask "where can I find this" without expending any energy to find out if there are options.
There are lots of reasons to stop participating.

I am not holding back. We have very intelligent and intuitive moderators from what I have seen. It is their job to eliminate the riff raff. I am proud of what I do, of who I am and the life I have built. I enjoy this community and want to hear from you. I don’t post much because I honestly don’t know as much as most of you. But no one will shut me up or prevent me from being me.

The title of the thread is Politics Allowed and I haven't seen one comment on how responsible gun owners are being punished because of the mentally deranged mass shooters or of the same condition type politicians

Watch the television shows. 85% involve firearms to some capacity. Seriously watch them. The “detectives” always analyze and their narratives always say the bad guys used a “9mm.” The media and Hollywood is “targeting “ 9mm. Thank you for prodding. We are targeted and the media is involved. Watch. Take note. Don’t take my word.

I agree that it shouldn't BUT Leftist see silence as acquiescence.
And acquiescence is dangerous.

  • Tennessee --> The Republican Governor is trying to ram through a "red flag" law. This means that the accused is punished before being found guilty. The bill also includes drugs that if you use will cause your 2A rights to be denied while you are using the drug and 6-7 months afterwards.
  • Illinois --> The Democrat state government has passed a law banning "common use" weapons. On a personal note, my main LGS is part of a chain and their store in Illinois has sent some of the banned firearms to that store. Higher end CZs, ARs, etc. Even used firearms that we don't see in our area.
  • Michigan & other states. --> waiting periods fur purchasing firearms.
It doesn't take a lot to look before you speak. It's is "common knowedge".

Red Flag laws violate the 4th Amendment, due process. if they believe the person is a danger their is involuntary commitment for evaluation. Which has been deemed Constitutional.

Tennessee red flag law bill (without knowing the particulars) sounds like a stinker ! I’d be interested in knowing the details of it. (To get mad about it or to not get mad about it, that is the question)

Florida has a red flag law that was very well thought out and fine tuned. Its 4th amendment compliant!
Its not a broad stroke law, it’s very fine tuned and focused. I don’t fear it Due to the checks and balances along with excellent LEO’s and litigators all sworn to uphold state laws, state and US constitution. Those who refuse to get fired; and DeSantis is not afraid to do so or make examples out of those who thumb their noses at the law.
If someone enforces a red flag law incorrectly here, the matter is swiftly rectified. Proper Training is the key here! Not every Leo can enforce a red flag event, only authorized trained command officers can issue such orders; and even they have to consult legal advisers or a judge. Its not a slow process either. 2-3 quick phone calls, but it can get dragged out pending the particulars of any case. All cases are temporary holds until mental health and medical evaluations are completed and a judge in good standing reviews them. When the judge finds no satisfactory reason, the hold is lifted!
I’ve only seen a couple handfuls that were deemed permanent bans due to the severity of the issue and the doubt that medical intervention would sustain the person. Perhaps there should be more?
This usually happens if the person becomes a repeat problem (stops taking their meds or they stop working).

Most all laws start out with good intentions and then as time goes on they are relaxed and then abused. Who will be your next governor or AG? What is the penalty for false reporting? What is the penalty for improper use of the law?

As long as our state legislature is run by brain smart, constitutionally focused republicans and Governor, we’re fine. Always have been since I’ve lived here.
For 12 (I think it was 12) years we continuously voted for an old school democrat to represent us in The US senate. He was pro-2A, pro law enforcement…..you name it. We really liked him! He never voted on the party line either. But when something better came a long in the form of a Republican, we said “he did good for us”, but 12 years is enough. He now Runs NASA!

But I am seriously concerned about the great democrat migrations as they flee the schitt holes they helped make for the green pastures of Florida and probably won’t learn from the mistakes and lessons they ran from, only to blindly vote for the same schitt they left behind!

Their presence is keenly felt by observing their driving habits alone! They truly do not care about anyone’s safety but their own! Its frick’n insane how things have gotten worse in the last 3 years! The uptick in crime is also happening all as they move here.
It’s getting to the point where I once before felt comfortable having firepower on my hip (+xtra ammo), I’m now beginning to feel the need to have something more serious with me in my vehicle, like the M&P FPC 9 folder.
I’m already beginning to wonder if even that is going to be serious enough.
