New Glock 42

I have a Ruger LCP - 1st Gen. I really hate shooting that gun. But, it makes a good pocket gun. However, I am not a huge fan, but at least it is reliable. The LCP Max doesn't really interest me.

I started reading and watching reviews of the Glock 42. I rented it a couple of weeks ago. I rented it again today - then went and bought one.

I put 150 rounds thru the gun. I usually don't like Glock factory sights or the Glock grip angle. But on this little gun, the grip angle doesn't really effect me as much. And, I like the sights - especially compared to the LCP sights.

Anyway - gun is very accurate. I was surprised. Low recoil too. After shooting 150 rounds thru it, it took me a little while to adjust to 9mm again.

I picked up 1 extra mag for now, so I have 3. I was surprised how I could just rapid fire the entire mag and still do so well. I like this little gun.

It has its place. Will it replace my 9mms? No - But, I think I will start using it in place of the LCP

I've got more mags coming in, and a +2 extension from Taran Tactical. I really like this little gun

Yeah- looking at the specs side by side...wt and length....it should handle a little smoother than the LCP.
My neighbor across the street has one, carries it in his pocket most all the time.

Unfortunately, this gun is not proving to be reliable.

It's been reliable with 35 defensive rounds (Critical Defense and Hydrashoks). But with FMJ, about 8 stovepipes in 240 rounds of FMJ. Tried multiple brands. Only thing that runs 100% is PMC, but that was just one 50 round box.

Not happy about this.

I don't want a LCP Max, and nothing else in this size class unless you want SAO. And, as much as I love the 3 Shield Plus guns I have, I am not interested in the S&W Bodyguard. Trigger is too heavy, and many, many horrible Youtube reviews.

Well.......I hate that for you. Its a bummer when you have issues.
But.........if you can hang on a while- Kahr announced their new line will be coming out soon- whenever that is?
All I know is they will be double stack plus "other enhancements".

I considered the 365 in 380, but I am hesitant to try another tiny 380 again They are known to be more particular when it comes to ammo.

I do plan to rent the 365 in 9mm. But, it is heavier than that G42. And, is approaching the weight of the Shield PLus, which is rather big and heavy for pocket carry.

So, not sure yet what I will do.

I'm going to try it soon. I can't imagine I will like it as much as the Shield Plus platform, but we'll see. As it is smaller, I expect it to have more recoil. I'll find out soon.

I expect another box of PMC will work well again. I had a problem with Fiocchi FMJ in a different gun (LCP II) and visually compared the Fiocchi to PMC FMJ and there was a subtle difference in bullet shape with the Fiocchi a tad fatter. Perhaps a vigorous chamber polishing would help?

Well, WWB and 1 other brand didn't work either.

I actually already gave the gun to my son, as I've washed my hands in it. I just don't trust it. Thanks for the suggestion, though

The P365/380 is the same size as the P365/9mm.
The P365/380 fits the FCU and grip module of the P365X and P365XL. (12 round mags are needed for the X/XL grip module.)
The differences that I have found are the slide assembly (chamber differences, etc.) and the 380 spacer & follower added to the 9mm mag shells.
I have not found the P365/380 to be as finicky as other 380 pistols. It seems to like any defensive round and any round made by one of the historic USA manufacturers. It loves Remiinton/UMC. It chokes on Ammo, Inc.'s 380 ammo.

Yea, I know they are the same size. But the local shop only has the 9mm one to rent. Still, it will give me an idea of the size. And, I will try to put it in my pocket holster when I rent it.

Good to hear that the 365 version is not that picky.

I held a 365 over a Glock 42 at the gun store. They are about the same size, but the 365 is much thicker. And, it is heavier. So, I am not sure if it will work for what I intend for it. We shall see when I rent it next week.

Nice! Tough as nails "pocket gun" right there! My G43 says USA on the slide, but my G48 says Austria. Wonder why they make some here and some there?

Ok, I have put more rounds thru this gun. And, I got it back from my son. I am satisfied with it now.

It will shoot PMC FMJ 100%. It will shoot Blazer Brass FMJ 100%. It will shoot Hydrashok and Critical Defense 100%. It will not shoot Fiocchi, WWB or 1776. If I stick to the PMC and Blazer 380, gun runs fine.

I am rather surprised about the WWB causing issues. It absolutely hates Fiocchi. I shot only 5 rounds of Fiocchi, and it jammed on 3 of them.

Glad to hear your Grock is working good.

But- in case it puts you down again-I can say the p365 x380 has been flawless for me. It has amazed me more than any other gun I have fired.

I looked at those. They are bigger than the Glock, though, and start to push the edge of what is a pocket gun

Yep- the 365x380 is a tight fit in the pocket on my older jeans. But does fit on all my shorts (cargo) and on my newer full cut "flex" jeans. I keep the short grip on it- for that reason- pocket carry.
My 9mm version has the longer X-grip and I usually wear it on the side, but- even then, it will fit in the cargo shorts should I decide to pocket it.

But you already know the bottom line- what your hand likes and where/how you wish to carry. (y)

Thanks for the info.

I am excited to have the gun back again. It was really disappointing when I first got it and had those issues.
