Don’t really know where to post this but I was in a situation today where I had to shoot something. I’m traveling down a road along a river with a speed limit of 55. Up ahead I see a truck come to a stop so I slowed down and notice this raccoon walking across the road very slowly. When it crossed the road it started to head up a driveway to a YMCA camp. I ask the guys in the truck if they thought it had rabies and they said yes. So I pulled over and called the cops. No one knew who had jurisdiction so I gave up. Right then a State trooper pulled over and asked what’s going on. I told him and we walked up the driveway after it. I told him that I would shoot it if he wanted me to. He said great idea because he didn’t want to do the paper work if he shot the poor thing. I took my glock 30 out and put it out of its misery with one shot. The trooper said thanks and went on his way. He never asked me if I had a permit for the gun or anything. I picked up my brass and left.

This year I've shot 5 raccoons. 3 in the day time. I don't know many times you see a **** walking around in the daylight unless they are rabid. Around here anyway. Seems rabies has been pretty bad this Year.

It's been my experience when dealing with state LEO that they are a lot easier to talk to than locals. Even county LEO seem easier. But I know several state and county guys too so that might have some to do with it. Around here most the town cops are young and are more into shaking down the people that gave them crap in high school:buttkick:. State LEO got a lot of stuff on their plate it seems to me also. People are shooting at them to save their meth labs etc. Most the towns are pretty small around here so there's not a lot for local LEO do do. And when there is the state and county usually come in because most towns here don't have many of any police local. My little town has no police at all tumbleweed. Been trying to hire one but no one has applied since the last one was sent packing for shaking down kids and not believing he needed money in the bank to write checks.
