"will now be sent to Governor McDonnell's desk for his consideration." But is he going to sign it? I know nothing about VA politics and even the VCDL site doesn't say if he is going to sign or not.
Virginia House Repeals Ban on Concealed Carry in Restaurants!
Tuesday, March 02, 2010
On Tuesday, March 2, the Virginia House of Delegates voted to approve SB334, sponsored by State Senator Emmet Hanger (R-24) by a margin of 72 to 27. The measure previously passed in the Senate on February 16, by a vote of 22 to 18 and will now be sent to Governor McDonnell's desk for his consideration.
Senate Bill 334, sponsored by State Senator Emmett Hanger (R-24), would allow concealed carry permit holders to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense in restaurants that serve alcohol, provided they do not consume alcohol. Senator Hanger's bill would make it a misdemeanor for a permit holder to consume alcohol while on the premises of the restaurant.
Additionally, the House will also send both Senate Bill 3 and Senate Bill 408 to Governor McDonnell.
Senate Bill 3, sponsored by State Senator Ralph Smith (R-22), would allow the renewal of resident concealed carry permits by mail. The House passed SB3 by a vote of 81 to 18.
Senate Bill 408, introduced by State Senator Jill Vogel (R-27), would allow any person who may lawfully possess a firearm and is carrying a handgun while in a personal, private vehicle or vessel, to keep the firearm locked in a container or compartment in the vehicle or vessel. SB408 passed the House 74 to 25.
Please contact Governor McDonnell and respectfully request he sign Senate Bill 334 and bring Virginia in line with 40 other states that allow some form of concealed carry in restaurants. Also, please urge Governor McDonnell to sign SB 3 and SB 408.
Good luck, I hope your Governor is as 2a as ours. We have been able to legaly carry in restaurants for a few months now and surprise, the streets are not running with blood.
Governor Bob McDonnell Signs VA Restaurant Carry into Law
Wednesday, April 14, 2010
Fairfax, Va. - Governor Bob McDonnell has signed into law a NRA-backed measure allowing right-to-carry permit holders to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense in restaurants, providing they do not consume alcohol. State Senator Emmett Hanger (R-24) and Delegate Todd Gilbert (R-15) were the principal sponsors of Senate Bill 334/House Bill 505.
"This is a victory for self-defense in Virginia," said Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action. "As headlines remind us, violent crime can happen anywhere. Law-abiding Virginia residents now have the option to carry a firearm in restaurants to defend themselves and their loved ones."
The measure passed the State Senate in February by a margin of 22-18 and passed the House of Delegates in early March with a vote of 72-27. Virginia is the 42nd state to extend self-defense rights to permit holders in restaurants.
"The right to self-defense and the protection of loved ones in and outside the home is vital. We are pleased that Virginia passed these laws to enhance the self-defense rights of law-abiding folks in the Commonwealth," concluded Cox. "The NRA would like to thank Governor Bob McDonnell and the lead bill sponsors, Senator Emmett Hanger and Delegate Todd Gilbert, as well as all the other legislators who supported this common-sense measure."
Virginians can thank Governor Bob McDonnell for his Second Amendment support at (804) 786-2211 or click here to thank him via email.
