Just too add to the frustration and confusion my NRA instructor tried the gun out and says there is definetly something not right. Shooting very low at 10 yards. He said it could be a number of things and he is taking it to a different smith to have it evaluated. He is not a fan of the .40 DAO because he feels it is a hard gun to shoot with the combination of the .40 snap and the DAO trigger pull. But he also feels that if I learn to get even halfway proficient with this as a starter gun everything after that will come that much easier.
Getting very close to just having the dealer give me credit on the gun and buying new so I know what I am starting out with.
Thanks for all the replies and sound advice from everyone.
      Will keep ya posted.

I am not what I would call a regular shooter. But I have been shooting guns my whole life. I was able to put 4 rounds out of 20 on the X, and almost all were in the 9 ring. At 25 yards.

Just to update you on this. The dealer returned the gun to Sig for some reapir work after it had been determined to be a problem Sig needed to handle. Got a vauge description from the dealer of the problem. Something about the way the barrel lays in the frame etc.
So after a week the dealer calls me back and says that Sig will not repair/return the gun and that they credited his account instead. So he goes on to say that he has located two other used 229's from another wholesaler and he will have them brought in and let me choose from the two. He will call when they are in and I am to go there to take a look at them.
None of this sounded right to me so I called Sig the next day. Come to find out they never seen the gun, never issued a call/repair tag for the dealer to send the gun in. Sig tells me the last activity on this guys account was back in February.
So he is trying to pull some sort of crap on me. Of course my biggest concern is that there is a Sig 229 floating around somewhere registered to me!!
Monday will be not be a good day for this dealer. He will have two choices.

      1. Produce documentation from Sig saying the gun was destroyed or some transfer documentation absolving me of ownership of this gun. I know he can't do this because he never sent the gun to Sig.

      2. Produce the damn gun! Which I don't think he can do either.

If neither of these happen by the end of the day on Monday I will be writing a letter to local law enforcement outlining the situation informing them that the whereabouts of this gun are unknown to me. Should the gun be used in any future crime then at least I have documentation with law enforcement that I am not in possesion nor do I have documentation proving it's whereabouts.
Thankfully I do have a receipt from the dealer that shows I returned the gun to him for repair. However this does not in any way remove the gun from ownership by me.
DAMN!!! I hate having to be put in these crappy situations by people like this.

Wow what a snake. If he doesn't give the gun back or provide proof that SIG has it then definitely get the law involved. I can't believe he'd do something like that. Might have to start going somewhere else.

Damn, what a crappy gun dealer. So, if I understand this correctly, the dealer said the barrel was not laying in the frame right then told you he sent it to Sig, but the Sig factory has never received it. If I were in your shoes, I'd do exactly what you were going to do first, then if the dealer does not satisfy your needs, contact ATF regarding his FFL license to distribute firearms. This does not smell right. Keep us posted on the results.

Nope never saw the gun again. Says he never sent it to Sig that he sent it to the wholesaler. The wholesaler is the one who gave him the credit. I wound up getting my money back along with verification that the gun is back on his books and no longer my responsibility.
I bought a brand new FNP9 with 3 16 round mags off of gunbroker from Ray Tanner and am very pleased. Had enough money left to buy a few accessories. The FNP is a nice gun for the buck. Paid just a hair over $400.00 with shipping and FFl charges. Nice deal. Sorry about letting the thread hang so long. I will need to get back here more often.

What an incredible thread. I just read thru it for the first time. I too own a Sig 229 in 40 but mine is an SA/DA. I like mine a lot for closer self defense type practice. It looks like you were able to salvage things well. Good luck, "Green"

I have a SIG P226. Shoots ragged holes...

If you have inconsistancy issues w/ the gun, SANDBAG it... Take your ability to aim out of the equation. From my experience... If it's a SIG, it'll shoot. The new 220 Target is advertised at less than 1 inch at 25yds.

Fold up your jacket. Sit in a chair, and bench-rest it at 20 feet. I bet it will tear a ragged hole SOMEWHERE in the paper. Now, adjust your sights to POI.

I always trust the arrow, not the indian...

Hitting a target @ 25yds. with a DAO takes lots of practice.

Wow what a read.. The plot just got better and better! I'm glad you got your situation resolved at least.

I'm considering a CPO gun, so this makes me think to really be weary of the dealer and/or description... I'd probably either go to one dealer I trust locally or from one the recommended dealers you guys talk about in here.. Bud's etc. etc.

Also this thread makes me think definitely DA/SA or SAO maybe.. I'll need to get my hands on a couple samples to get acquainted with Sig triggers.. I'd love to rent one but don't think my range has any Sigs.. Mainly glocks, rugers one old HS (XD) and a bunch of revolvers.

Too bad a crappy dealer scared him away from a Sig. Sig coud have replaced the action with a SA/DA SRT type. I have the SRT on mine and it is awsome.
