Hello all,
I own a Walther P5 and an H&K P7, and about to get a Walther P1 just because, well... I've always liked them. From what I can gather, the German "P" designation is used to denote pistols used by various governmental agencies. Is this true? And if so, was there a P2, 3, 4, 8 and 9? I know there is a P6 that is a Sig model, but I can't remember which Sig it is.

Interesting question. I tried Googling around for about 10 minutes, and this is all I could find online:
P-1 = Walther P-38 9mm
P-4 = Walther P38K 9mm (really short barrel)
P-5 = Redesigned Walther P-38 9mm with an enclosed slide
P-6 = SIG 225 (single-stack 9mm)
P-7 = H&K PSP 9mm (squeeze-cocker)
P-8 = Heckler & Koch 9mm (USP variant?)

P-10 = Another H&K 9mm; seems to be a compact version of P-8

Thanks for the info. I purchased a P6 yesterday, and shot it earlier today. It's a really nice pistol and very accurate pistol, especially when one considers that it's several decades old. For $349, I would rather have a used Sig than a new Taurus or Sigma. Hopefully I'll be able to type up a range report later this week....

I agree with you 100% on the used SIG rather than the other choices you listed. They are fine guns, and I think they are a good deal at that price, even though the ones I've seen were a bit rubbed/holster worn.
