Made my final decision...kinda

Well I am going to the gun show/ swap meet next weekend. I have decided on the Springfield XD 9mm, or the S&W M&P 9mm or the FN FNP-9. OK I guess I really did not decide for sure yet. I have held them all and they all feel great. If I find one real cheap I will probably get that one. Maybe if I can find a slightly used one. If I was going to get a used one of any of those what should I look for? Anything to be cautious of. I wouldn't get one that is too old. Just slightly used. Maybe a trade in.

I like the safety features of the XD and that it is DAO also. I like the reputation of the M&P and the changeable grip strap. I am really intrigued with the FN FNP-9 too though. If I could find the DAO version I think I would get it first. The FN doesn't have as much in the way of safeties, except the de-cocking. Well I will let everyone know how it goes and thanks for any advice already given and to come.

I think when you stumble across it, you'll just know. It really comes down to how it feels to you. Personally, despite all the hee-haw about the XD series, the thing feels like a brick in my hand. The M&P, however, is magic and shoots like a dream. I'm just not a big fan of polymer, which is why I've shyed away from HK and M&P. Plus, the M&P does come in different variations (at least the .45 does, which is all I've paid attention to). Anyway, best of luck and let us know what you find.

THe FNP is very nice - not sure why you would want a DAO - however. Do you realize how heavy and long a DAO trigger really is? With a true DAO, you don't even need a decocker.

COme check out the FN forum if ya wanna learn more about the FNP.

I'd recommend you shoot each pistol first before you put down the greenbacks. Just my personal opinion.

As for purchasing used guns, see if the seller will allow you to take it apart...just make sure you know what you're doing.

isn't the XD and the M&P DAO? The trigger seems OK on those at the store. Will it be different loaded and firing? I just thought having the same pull on every shot would be better. I guess I just need to learn more.

I would stay away from used guns for awhile until you get more familiar with them. Some of these guys are real slick at selling damaged goods. If you are going to buy used learn all you can about function testing a pistol. Good luck.

The XD and the M&P are not considered DAO. They are both striker fired. The XD is actually more like a single action. When the slide is pulled back, a round is chambered and the striker is pulled all the way back. The trigger pull simply releases the striker. I'm not positive, but I think the M&P is more like a Glock where the striker is half cocked...? DAO is very long and heavy.

I realize I mis stated the DAO part. I am still a little lost what a DAO is. What guns are DAO? I get the DA/SA. I ordered my XD 9mm yestarday. should be here mid week. $425.00 including s/h.

$425 seems like a good price, can I ask where you got it from?

The unit has a tremendous quality history created by a manufacture that wanted better than good.
Us that have Glocks recognize good when we see it.
Would we trade? Probably not.

Has a good deal for paying with credit card for "buy it now", no 3% if you pay within 3 days. a good seller rating too. that was most important to me for online orders. check out this item number, same guy 80128932.

Shhhhhhh... Don't tell my wife. I realize that. I am one of those types that goes deep into a hobby when I do it. I did want the gun for home protection for sure. But I have been wanting one for a long time. I love to shoot. I excelled in the Marines as a rifleman and I have always wanted to do it since I got out. A couple years ago I took up Skeet and clay target shot gun shooting and found that I was a natural. So now I want to give handguns a try. I was really considering the tactical version for better target shooting, but I want to carry later down the road.
