So it's time to add a modern 9mm to the fold. It's important it's friendly to lefties and accurate as it will be a range only gun at distances up to 25yds.
I was really close to getting a Kimber Aiges II Custom but would like to consider othre models. DA/SA, SA, DOA all acceptable. A 5 inch barrel probably makes sense. OTD pricing needs to be arround $2000 or less.
Ideas?

All controls (slide release/safety) are on both sides of the frame.
You might also consider the H&K P7, whose mag release and cocking lever are ambidextrous. No safety lever to worry about. A very well-made and accurate, and somewhat idiosyncratic pistol.
The Walther P99's mag. release is also ambi, though the slide release isn't. However, you don't have to use the slide release in order to release the slide. I have no problems shooting lefty with it, since I can release the mag quite easily with a push of the index finger. I also believe that the Walther P88 is fully ambi, with slide release/decocker and mag release on both sides.
I think the Walther P5 ejects to the left, if that is important to you.

Well, I ended up getting a Sig X-five Allround in 9mm. No, it doesn't have a lefty safety (no safety) and the idea of using the index finger to release the mag makes sense.
I haven't shot it yet, too busy watching the latest Bourne movie with my son.
Very easy to diassemble and lubricate. Fit back together effortlessly. Everything feels tight. Plan is to sight it in tomorrow nite and fire a hundred rounds!

$2,000.00 for a 9 MM? I would think $500.00 would be $200.00 too much. Why all the bucks for such a dimutive caliber? A .45 ACP Thunder Ranch, perhaps, but a 9?? I can't see it. What am I missing? Bill T.

Since early 1997 have a HK USPc with satey and decocker on left side, ambi mag release, At that time HK installed a full hammer and sent the bobbed with it, only the bobbed was available for LH models. The recently bought P2000sk is almost is good but the decoker button is on the left side of hammer and not as ergonomic for me. Most accurate with the USPC and keeping it. In fact keeping both.
+1 for the SIG P226 X-Five. It's available in either 9mm or .40 S&W. Check it out on the SIGARMS website. I'm kindof a SIG fanatic (I have six of them), but the X-Five would be my dream if I still had my eyesight of 20 years ago.
