new m&p 9

just purchased a m&P9 today at the gun show. I have been wanting a Walther p99, but after holding it the grip just didn't feel right. The M&P just felt better in my hand and I felt more comfortable with it. I wanted a full size 9 mm for a long time and finally I have one. I traded a Taurus 85 38 spec and a 25 yr old Marlin deer rifle that was not in the best shape for it. I feel I made agood deal on it especially since I never shot the rifle and the Taurus was not my favorite gun. My new favorite gun is the m&P and it holds 17 rounds---a bonus. what ammunition would yall recommend for target and home defense?
P.S. Sorry Shipwreck, I know you are a Walther fan, But it just didnt feel right in my hands.

I didn't like the way my P99 fit until I change the grip back strap with one of the three it came with. Congrat on your new pistol. The best range ammo is the cheaps ammo you can find.

I think you will like your new toy. Feed it just about anything except CCI Aluminum case ammo for practice. There are a lot of good home defence rounds available. Pick one readily available where you shop that doesn't cost two arms and legs. If you want to kill to the nth degree it might be more important. I believe reasonable cost hollow points will serve just fine.

I just bought some CCI ammo is it junk?
Sorry not trying to hyjack the thread just curious is all. BTW congrats on the purchase I have a XD-45 now and really want to add a m&p9 to the collection.

Nothing wrong with CCI aluminum. As long as it feeds ok, you and your pistol will be fine. CCI makes a quality product. I've had squib loads with Winchester, Hornady, Remington, and Monarch, but I've never had a squib w/CCI, and that includes .22.

As for defense loads - stick with a major manufacturer, and you will be fine.

Congratulations on your M&P9, hargroder. It really does have a great feel to it. I have shot a lot of CCI aluminum blazer thru mine with no problems at all.
