i don't have any experience with them, but i do remember some not-so-good remarks about them in past posts on this forum. before you buy, search the 1911 threads on here. i think you will find some better suggestions for a low end 1911.
I have a friend that has a Charles daly 1911. It was made & purchased before whoever owns them now. He seemed to like it pretty well. I do know that the ejector broke and was giving him grief right before it broke. I'm sure it had a few thousand rounds through it before that broke. Now that's it's all fixed and back to normal, he seems to like it still.
are these guns any different w/new owners now?
I bought one and had very consistent problems with it as long as I owned it, BUT... I never sent it in, had it looked at, or bought new magazines. I was very new to gun ownership and didn't know to do any of that...just thought "that's life." It would FTE, stove pipe, FTFeed, and a couple times it extracted the spent casing AND an unfired round at once. WTF? :smt104
When I put my friend's 1911 Springfield mags in it, it seemed to run fine. I ended up selling it a little while back, only because I never shot it (.45 is pricey) and we needed some cash, FAST.
I really wish I hadn't sold it, now. I told the guy who bought it that I was pretty sure some new magazines were all it needed. He put some new mags in it and said it has been a champ! It was definitely accurate, probably more than any of my other pistols.
From my research on them... I have heard a lot of horror stories about CD 1911s, and I've also seen a lot of people swear by them, but, from my experience, I wouldn't knock the gun. It was my fault for not getting it looked at, so it probably would've been just fine.
