Hey I've been researching things online and I think I'm going to go with a semiauto for home defense... although there's a problem. I want it to be stainless/silver finish, and have a tactical rail for a light. I haven't been able to find any that fit this description. As far as caliber goes, it seems as if 9mm or .357 are the cheapest for ammunition, and .40 and .45 are more expensive, correct?

I know the Springfield XD comes in a bi-tone and has a rail to mount a light. Another option is to buy a gun that meets what you need and then have it hard chromed.
Generally speaking, the larger the caliber, the more expensive the ammo.
The Taurus 24/7 Pro comes in a stainless steel finish w/ light rail. It only comes in 9mm, .40S&W, and .45ACP. I believe the .357Sig round is closer in price to .40S&W per 100 in winchester white box ammo. I hope this helps.
Todd makes a very good point when he suggested that you find the gun with your needs then have it chromed. Your missing out on a good amount of guns.Quote:

Handle as many guns as you can and buy the one that is most comfortable for you use. Worry about the finish later. As was mentioned, you can always hard chrome later if you want.
