Gunna do it

Well, I'm gonna break down and buy a target 22 soon... I'll be heading to a Houston gun show in a couple of weeks, and I'll be coming home with something.

So far, a Ruger Mark 3 is at the top of my list - the one with the fixed sights. It's the only on I have seen that comes w/ white dot sights. All the other target 22s I have seen have black sights.

But, the disassembly process does have 1 mark against it. And, unfortunately, the fixed sight version isn't set up for a mounting rail.

Academy used to sell a Buckmark with a yellow fiber optic front sight - If they still did, I'd just buy one of those. True, the rear site is black, but at least the front sight isn't. Academy is the only place I ever saw that version, and now its discontinued.

I also like the S&W version, but once again - all black sights.

I wanna use it to try and teach my wife to shoot, and my son 1 day - so, I while I want the ability to mount a scope on it should I want to, I would prefer to just use standard sights.

I shot Wandering Man's S&W 22 revolver this weekend. It is hard to use all black sights at my darkly lit indoor range. That's why I don't want all black...

So, still a lot of variables in my head - but I'll be coming home w/ something :mrgreen:

Have you considered a S&W 41? A friend of mine wouldn't part with his for love or money. It's accurate as they come, and hold their resale value very well. Perhaps better than any other target .22, except for the custom/competition rigs.

I love the U22 Neos by Beretta and you should be able to get it for less than 200 and the mags are only 10 dollars. Once I get my MarkII target fixed (jam problems) I will like it the best because of the feel and weight.

Shipwreck,

In my shooting bag is a small bottle of white-out and a black felt tip marker. When we shoot black target I paint the sights white (front and rear) when we shoot white targetsa I paint them black. It's simple and it works.

+1 on that. I'd forgotten about those sweet little things. I had one a long time ago and let it get away from me......:oops:

Well, I don't wanna spend as much as the SW41 costs. If I did, I'd probably buy that Beretta Cheetah 22.

As for the Neos - I plan to rent one at the range the next time I go - I never knew they had one to rent until I was leaving yesterday. I saw it hanging on the rack. I don't really like the grip angle when holding it - but we'll see when I try shooting it.

As for making my own white dots. I have fixed white dots w/ paint before. But, I am too anal retentive about my guns - the finish and such - I don't wanna start drawing dots on the sights. I'd never get them to look right. I wish they sold little white stickers to put on black sights....
