Training a Hunting Dog

How do you guys do it? Do you train them yourselves or have someone else train them? How difficult is it? If I get into hunting this season and like it, I may be getting a dog once I get my own place. So I'm just sort of curious. I am hoping for a lab of some kind, but that may change over time.

I got a book and trained mine myself(30+ years ago) and it worked pretty well, I had an Irish setter and she was a damn good pheasant pointer and duck retriever so dont rule out the setters.

I trained my catahoula myself great deer dog. Here is a pic of Nick after a day of hunting.
