I'm a big fan of the Ruger MkIIs. Browning Buckmarks are nice also. I don't have a lot of experience with the newer 'plastic' .22s the S&W, the walter etc etc.

Hey JS here's one you can't beat. It's a Mark I or Standard. Ruger I bought this gun in 1978 and taught my kids and now grandkids how to shoot with it. Still shoots good as ever and looks brand new. I think I paid $110 for it back then. Good luck..

I am not sure of your price range, but for an excellent 22 under $300 look at a used or new (if you can find one) S&W 2206. Good sights and trigger, has 12rd mags available, and is very easy to field strip.
I have a MarkII target model with a red dot scope and this thing is a blast to shoot. 500 round box of ammo, backyard full of pinecones and squirrels makes for a great afternoon !!

So far, out of the 200 bullets I have fired, there have been no problems. The S&W is among the cheaper .22 target guns out there. If you are not concerned with the price, and you like how the other guns fit your hand...get the Browning or Ruger models. The accuracy of the S&W is good, but I thinkt he Browning and Ruger are a little better...maybe.
About the only other good gun in the S&W price range is the Beretta Neos.
If are seriously considering the S&W, let me know. I plan on shooting another 300 bullets by the end of this weekend. I'll let you know if I experience any failures in that time with the PMC ammo I am using.
I own both a Ruger MK1 and a Browning Buckmark. I vote for the Buckmark, as it's easier to take apart to clean. You wouldn't go wrong with either one.
I bought the Buckmark for $240 used at a gunshop.

I just put a reflex sight on my Ruger Mark II Competition Target like rfawcs did on his Buckmark(pic above) . The Ruger certainly is a solid handgun. Mine hiccups about once every 500 on the cheap ammo I feed it.

what about a P22 have they got any better?
Why not just get a 22 conversion kit for your 1911? You stay used to the trigger pull and "1911 feel" that way. I have one I use on my commander frame and its fun:mrgreen:

Another vote for the Ruger MkII
I have a ciener kit and haven't had any trouble with it since I went to using decent shells, The cheapo stuff around here isnt always powerful enough to make the slide cycle but CCI and most of the other stuff works flawlessly, and I only paid 199 for the ciener at brownells ( I got the standard sights).Quote:
