Help with Concealled Carry choices

I am now looking for a concealled carry gun. I own XD9 and a buckmark .22 and love them both. I want a smaller gun for carring purposes as concealled is very important to me. The XD is just a tad large. I don't want a pocket gun however. I am having a hard time getting things down to 1-2 choices and I know its going to come down to how they feel. Unfortunately there are no rentals here and I suspect I will need to buy without ever shooting it. I like the 9 mm caliber but wonder if I should go up. The sig 239 seems to be on the list. I think for my next gun I want it to be something other than another XD (simply for variety). I guess price is an issue but I am willing to pay what needs to be to get a good firearm. After market holsters are an issue..reliability and accuracy a must, all in a conceallable package. Am I just dreaming?? I would like a metal frame, and a manual safety and a decocker as well if there is such a beast.
Please help me narrow my choices to 2 or 3 so that I can go to the gun shop and check them out.

A SIG 239 might fit the bill. 9mm, .40 and .357sig calibers. I don't believe it has a manual safety, but it's a DA/SA, and has a decocker.

2 or 3 choices? Dream on. I started with a list of 8 or 9 9mm compacts and subcompacts. Shot as many as I could, then ended up shooting a 1911 .45, and buying the commander (4"barrel) version of that. The 1911 wasn't even on my scope until I got some not-so-gentle nudging from friends.

You have lots of research to do on-line, in the gun store, and at the range. You will need to find a range that rents.

The up side of this is, however, the research is FUN! Enjoy the ride.

If I may be permitted an observation here, pick a gun that feels right to you. And, for concealed carry, the HEIGHT of the gun is important, that is, from top of the slide to butt. This dimension affects it imprint, or lack of it, on outer garments.

Check out a subcompact Glock 26 in 9mm or a Glock 27 in .40S&W.

These are good CCW guns. Very light, affordable, concealable, accurate, etc. Since you can't rent them try gripping them to see which is comfortable in your hands.

But if they're too small you can check out the Glock 19 or 23; which is another step above for CCW.

I agree with Bob - what feels best will work best for you. I have the Kahr P9 and like it a lot for IWB carry. The PM9 was just too small. My H&K P2000 is a little bigger, but is a great carry gun OWB or paddle. Both are 9mm. I do have my eye on a Commander size or even 3" 1911 by Kimber. You can never have enough pistols. :smt023

Given the limitations specified (Metal frame, Manual safety/Decocker), I'd suggest a S&W 3913. It's a great 9MM CC gun that meets your guidelines.

There's lots of other great choices that are eliminated because because of frame material, safety, decocker.

I don't know if it has a decocker - but it has the safety - Bersa 380. Great little sized gun.

I suggest the S&W 460 XVR with the 8 3/8" barrel. I'm having a hard time finding an IWB holster for it but it will just look like another body part. People might think you have a 3rd leg. It can stop an on-coming train if one is chasing you. If a bus full of gang members are trying to run you down, you can stop them with one shot. I've done a pro and con list and did not find one con for this gun as your concealment weapon. If I could only find a IWB holster.

the bersa 380 saftey lever works as a decocker like a beretta 92. the bersa is a nice small concealable gun. my other suggestion would be a snubby revolver. i carry my ruger SP101 almost all the time nowadays. with an inside the pants holster, i almost forget it's there. i also like the 357 power it delivers, only five shots though.

+1:mrgreen: I picked up one of these recently because I have trouble concealing my Glock 19. I have really fallen in love with this little thing. With good ammo the .380 can be a good choice despite what the bigger is better folks say.

I may choose to get a S&W revolver as my carry piece.

Right now, I think the Sig 239 SAS 9mm (if they ever make it) would be top choice...but take a look at this neat little revolver. It is the Model 442 Revolver with the Centennial INTERNAL hammer. There is NOTHING to snag, and this gun is so small it can fit in your pocket.

I held one at the store, and it is very small. Almost as small as those $120 semi-auto .22 guns that look like they jam on every other round. What I like best about this gun is the added reliability you get with a revolver in a tiny package. It would fit in any pocket of mine, and likely serve me well.

It only holds 5 rounds, but that should be enough (hopefully).

90% of my pistols are full or medium sized. The other 10% is a Bersa Thunder. Just picked it up 2 weeks ago and man, it's a keeper. Reliable and easy to conceal. .380 is no kiddie round either.

I was going to suggest a subcompact Glock but it does not meet your criteria. Personally, my biggest obstacle is the width of a gun. I carry a Glock 23 which I love but carrying IWB for me is not good because of my body type (extremely handsome with a body builders physique):mrgreen: . I am looking at the Kel-Tec PF-9 or P-3AT. With the PF-9 being .88 of an inch compared to 1.18 for the Glock it makes a difference for me. I’m limited to what I can wear to effectively conceal it.
