New to the forum

I am new to the forum & thought I would post my first message.

I currently have a S&W Model 59 that dates back almost 20 years. I have not fired it in a long time because it never fit my small hand very well and it was uncomfortable to shoot. I will be looking for a smaller CCW handgun and thus my search has begun on this forum. I went to a local store yesterday and liked the S&W M&C 9MM. Then I read a few posts on the P99 A/S and that looks interesting, too. Basically I am looking for a comfortable reliable handgun that I will want to shoot.

Ultimately I will need to rent & shoot a few before making any decisions. I then want to take the CCW class.

Thanks to all the good information I have found so far. I am sure I will have additional posts as my search continues.

Also, whatever gun U buy, U may want one with the adjustable back strap, so U can alter it to fit your hands if they are small (M&P, P99, PX4, FNP9 - some examples of semi autos with adju backstraps)

I just looked at a Para Hawg 9. Any thoughts on the Para? I don't see much discussion about them.

U may wanna look at the two 1911 website forums. I looked into one as a possible gun to buy earlier this year - Academy Sports sells a Para fullsize 1911 at a decent price, and I looked into the brand a bit. I found some mixed stuff about the brand and decided to pass. That's not to say that there isn't many satisfied para owners. There are a few people on this site who own that gun. U may wana post a question in the 1911 section. U may get some responses.

Don't get me wrong i love 1911s but i think there a little heavy for ccw
so you might want to try a plastic gun there lighter. as ship says the p99 is good and has a good write up also try a compact glock or XD mine are great but thats just my opinion

What condition is that 59 in and what would you sell it for?

Seriously, that's a really nice pistol you have, desired by many. 2005 Standard Catalog of Firearms sez $300 for one in excellent condition, but that's probably a little low for yours. Look at the various gun auction websites, Shotgun News, and Gun Digest, and you may get a better idea of real world value.

Welcome. Don’t let Shipwreck fool ya. There are other guns out there besides a P99. I carry a Glock 23 but admittedly will get a smaller one for my CCW. Don’t let your brain blowup trying to decide. Just when you think you got it pegged you learn of another. May as well buy a few and enjoy ‘em all. It’s like being Michael Jackson at a Boy Scoots Jamboree. Just so many to choose from.
