Does anyone know if the Five-SeveN Tactical is available to the public?
I wasn't aware, until recently, that there are 3 versions of this gun. If they dropped them in price, they might be more popular.
uh is that a yes then?
Kinda', sorta'
Lol >,<, on THR someone started an arguement about how effective the round was saying it wasnt good for law enforcement, i dont think they realized why the ronud was designed in the first place.
Well, it is a smaller round. I wanna buy the PS90 myself.
I don't know if all of the original versions of the Five-Seven pistol are still around anymore or not.
That model is no longer produced by FN for importation into the USA but they can sometimes be found on the used/collector market. http://policeguns.com/2006/cart.cfm?...ProductID=5624 is one source (if you can stomach the price.)
California (as a counter example) does NOT list the Tactical model (nor the DAO model) on its list of approved/safe firearms, although the IOM and USG models are listed.
Yes the FN five seven is available at a premium. Retail around 1000.00 I wanted one but now I am uncertain. The rounds are way expensive and travel outside my comfort range. What I have read so far has been positive. Very accurate, very little recoil, 20 round clip... The negative is the down grading of the round... This is what little I have read.
A USG Fiveseven can be had for $800.00.
What does the Tactical model have that makes it so desirable (read +$)? How does it vary from the other models?
It was the second variant of the 5.7 and very few have slipped out into the open market. It’s a lot like the IOM (3rd) version except for the tactical rail, adjustable sights and mag safety. Truly a collectable piece. And when you have all 4 versions, then you collection is complete. :smt041

What is the difference? and which one is the single action/4lp trigger version?
I thought that there were only two versions the USG(DAO) and the IOM (Single action)?
Nice collection, by the way!
Thanks ! Only the first model (DAO) was double action with a 10 – 14 lb trigger pull. It also did not have a manual safety and came with fixed sights. The second model (Tactical) is a single action and has a manual safety, fixed sights and some come with night sights. These two versions were not sold to the public. The third model (IOM) was the first version available to the public. It is a single action and looks like the Tactical version with a couple of upgrades (Adjustable Sights, Tactical Rail, and Magazine Safety) and only 4700 were made. The forth model (USG) is a single action with all the upgrades as the IOM along with a redesign of the trigger guard and texture grip.
Hows ammo? is it easy to find? expensive? I read, that you cannot buy the armor piercing SS192(?) so what is the point of the 5.7 round, without armor piercing abilities? does it actually have decent "stopping power"?
There’s no problem finding ammo for the 5.7. The SS195 is the replacement for the SS192 to use for self defense and the SS197 is more target practice. These run around $17 a box of fifty. Personally I use the SS192 to carry and the other two for practice.
You can still find the SS192 ammo for around $50 a box. The SS190 is actually the armor piercing round. The SS192 will not penetrate steal. However, it will penetrate Kevlar body armor. The replacement round (SS195 is not suppose too). I used to be a .44 magnum carrier, until I research the 5.7. Now I use it to for home protection and to carry.
With the low recoil, I can fire 3 accurate rounds before I can start to fire my second .44 round. This same discussion was hashed over when the 9mm came out. I read something at that time that rings true today. Two shots to the body and One shot to the head, The person will not know that it was a 9mm. Being proficient with what ever pistol you own is the most important thing. In my own opinion, the 5.7 has plenty of stopping power.
What is the legality of the SS190/SS192 ammo? are they NFA, is the old stuff fine, but the newly manufactured stuff banned, (like the Assault weapon ban) or is SS190/SS192 perfectly legal for civies to buy/sell, and FNH just sells it only to gov?
Which model do you like the most? Does the USG have a 4lb trigger?
Check this out, made me laugh!
