Thinking of replacing my Ruger Mark III with another 22LR

I really like how this gun shoots and enjoy shooting 22LR, but I am so wearing of the breakdown and cleaning of this gun that I think I just want to trade it for something else. It's supposed to be a fun recreational shooter, but if I avoid using because I don't want to clean it... then I may as well have something different.

What do you guys think? I like the Ruger SR22 or maybe a Bersa Firestorm. In terms of revolvers, I also like the Ruger Single Six's and the S&W 617 -- but these are more than I want to spend. I just want a recreational shooter that's fairly accurate with a good trigger, low maintenance, and less than $400.

Any other thoughts on my situation or other 22LR recommendations?

Maybe a GSG 1911 in .22?

Should be easier than a Mk3 etc., good trigger and not too costly. Would rather have something like that than the Walther, SR22, but that's just me.

I have something that might be too far afield for a Mark3 user, the CZ-75 Kadet. It's the 22LR version of the CZ-75, one of the most widely used LE/military guns in the world, so it is definitely not like holding a range-only gun. The gun is one tough puppy and it will take a beating. Alternatively, you can buy a CZ-75 in 9mm and get a 22LR conversion kit, so you have the option of either. The Kadet will run you @$600, the 9mm CZ-75 plus a conversion kit gets you up into $800 territory.

Keep your Mark III, just buy and add to your collection. If you're like most of us, you'll regret selling in less than a month. Just my two bits.

Two options come to mind right away. Remove the magazine disconnect safety and replace it with this;

or get a Browning Buckmark. I installed a Sam Land bushing in my Mark III 22/45 and have never looked back. It makes disassembly and reassembly much easier, plus the magazine drops free like you might expect.

The Ruger SR22 and S&W M&P 22 are both great choices. I enjoy shooting both, using CCI mini mag rounds. Good luck with your choice.

I have the Sig Sauer 1911 22LR (Same gun as the GSG) and the Bersa Thunder 22 (same as the Firestorm) and both of them have been a lot a fun with few problems, which have been primarily ammo problems. They are pretty accurate based on my performance; who knows they probably can do better!

As for revolvers, My Heritage Arms Rough Rider with the 4.75" barrel has been incredibly accurate. You also get a 22 Magnum cylinder. I am impressed with the gun's fit and finish, especially considering this gun goes for less than $200!!!

The Sig Sauer/ GSG 1911 caught my eye. Do they break down and clean like a regular 1911 or are there more parts / tools required?

I've seen the Heritage guns -- the look nice, but the price gives me pause. They almost seem too inexpensive to be reliable. Have you had any issues?

I hear ya... I'd rather just put my money into another gun that I'll get more use out of (assuming I can get a good price for the Mark III).

I have a CZ 75. Like it, don't love it. That said, the Kadet would be near the top of my list, but it's more money than I want to spend.

I considered the advice and done some research only -- although I've yet to hold or compare the other 22s, I reallying leaning toward the Ruger SR22. It seems like the best thing out there based on what I'm looking for. I like what I read about the trigger, the cleaning regimine, fun to shoot/accurate, nice price, likes most ammo, I like the size of it, and I like Ruger - they seem like a good company that makes good products. I need to get my hands on one to make a final decision.

Anyone have any concerns about this pistol?

We have both the SR-22 and a Browning Buckmark. Many years ago my grandpa had a Ruger Standard, loved that pistol and really wanted a Mark III when they first came out. The Youtube videos of the breakdown and cleaning process pretty much scared me away, bought the Buckmark and have nothing but good to say about it.

The SR-22 has a lot more applications, fits into a purse nicely for a CCW for my wife, is light enough to wear on the hip all day when fishing as well as a great plinking pistol.

I did a lot of research before buying the Buckmark, the wife bought the SR-22 because she said it felt really good in her hand and she would rack the slide much easier than the Buckmark. You really can't go wrong with either in my opinion.

I had a 10" bullbarrel MKII I still kick my butt for trading,it shot like a rifle out to 100yds.Takedown is odd,but if you're having a problem it's still new and tight or you're doing something wrong.I replaced it years later with a Sig Trailside but I'm limited to match ammo,if I wanted to shoot HV rounds I'd buy another Ruger MK no problem.Just don't gut the reciever,that's the definition of a pain in the butt.
