Apparently the constitution is outdated...
Have you heard people say this? My facebook is 'littered' with these kind of comments. Anybody else heard people say this?
The simple reply is that it's the supreme law of the land in which this country is based upon period. If it's outdated, or those who claim as such they need to shut their mouths and get off their lazy asses and move congress to repeal it's articles or amendments by 2/3 rds of each house and then ratified by 3/4ths of the states. Furthermore, if they are referring to the second amendment remind them that it was recently addressed in the Heller decision by the Supreme Court a year or two ago. Tell them they need get into school and call them traitors as well. It's not so much that it's outdated, they just don't like it nor respect it.
This fool thinks so:
PIERS MORGAN: BOTH THE BIBLE AND U.S. CONSTITUTION ARE ‘INHERENTLY FLAWED’ AND NEED TO BE AMENDED
Piers Morgan: Both the Bible and U.S. Constitution Are ‘Inherently Flawed’ and Need to Be Amended | Video | TheBlaze.comQuote:
During a discussion on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” on Monday — Christmas Eve — with Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren, Morgan argued that there needs to be an “amendment to the Bible” for same-sex marriage, because like the Constitution, the Bible is “inherently flawed.”
Yes, I have heard that a number of times over the years and have read it in letters and opinion pages many times. My take is when people say this, you know it is more relevant today than ever. If you want to engage someone in conversation or debate about this, ask them with what would they replace the Constitution. What would they suggest as a better design for the nation? And does this also include the Bill of Rights (which according to at least two Founders, was not subject to amendment)?
It has been my experience when asking these questions of someone who makes a statement like this, that their response is in favor of a more socialistic form of government. The problem with these people is twofold: if you push them, you will soon find out that they have not fully thought out their argument; and that they tend to know little of history and what it teaches us about the folly of mankind with governments.

I've heard this once in my life from a liberal moron. For Facebook,I think there are more idiots there per capita than the internet. How many dolts advertise they are going on vacation so they can be robbed,or air their personal lives and the stupid crap they do.
There are alot of governments in this world,if you don't like this one leave and take your ignorant friends with you.Quite simple.
Shipwreck did you sign the petition to have him deported? I did, last time I checked it was at like 60,000 but I think I read its at almost 100,000...
the constitution says "Only Gold and Silver shall be Legal Tender."
we went away from that a long time ago
just imagine what a new constitutional convention would come up with to replace that sentence?
and that's just one issue
The only thing inherently flawed is him. His native country Great Britain is petitioning to keep him out and the US is petitioning to deport him. He better be doing some country shopping, or find a small island to seek asylum, what does that tell you? Pure Idiot.
The Constitution was never meant to be the "Law", it was meant to be the framework for the laws that our forefathers knew were to come. As such it is our "Mission Statement" and should never be changed. I don't even like the Amendments from the Eleventh forward. They were unnecessary as they could have been changed by legislative law instead of amendments. The Bible is similar, the Ten Commandments are the framework and Leviticus and Deuteronomy are the law. The original 10 commandments were a framework for a working code of religious and legal regulations for the People of Israel (the tribes, not the modern nation) and as such should not be changed. Those who are crying for change obviously do not understand the purpose and intent of the Constitution and Bible. Disregard the ignorant and follow sense and logic. We let other other people do too much of our thinking for us.
Please keep him guys, we dont want him back! Surely you must have a spare desert or great lake you can keep him in? We have more than our fair share of idiots over here in the UK! Cheers, chris
We do need a couple of new amendments:
One that states that a Senator or Representative may sit only two terms in office, after which, there will be a 10 year moratorium between terms as a congressman and working as a lobbyist.
The President and his Cabinet and members of Congress shall obey and adhere to all laws and regulations that The Citizens of the United States of America are bound to.
Congress shall not vote itself a pay raise, that power shall rest soley in the hands of the American Citizens and shall be voted on in referendum.
Once a member of Congress leaves office, all benefits ie Secret Service Protection, health care, health club membership, ends.
The President and Congress shall have the same medical care and coverage enjoyed by the citizenry.
I live in New York, so i hear this everyday and twice on Sunday. The Constitution is the basis for our leaders' authority. Scrap the Constitution and I ignore them, their laws, their taxes, etc.
Although, if they were smart they'd embrace the Constitution anew, because without it, the state of art tactic for getting rid of leaders that you don't like is stringing them up in the town square. As it stands, we vote them out and let them live out their lives. The alternative is not good for them...
It is only outdated to those who don't fully understand it and don't know history. Ask anyone who thinks that if they know anything about the Federalist Papers. And not just "I've heard of them", I mean have read any part of it. I bet I can guess the answer. Understanding the political philosophy behind the words in the Constitution is necessary in truly understanding the document and it's implications.
The ones claiming it's outdated are ones it was written to protect us from. Pesky little things like laws, morals, and character keep getting in their way
Honestly, I'm starting to understand why things are the way they are. Stupid people have us outnumbered, no wonder our vote doesn't count... Why would they leave important decisions like who should be our leaders up to a population filled with retards (overall I mean)?
We shouldn't need a constitutional amendment to do this. "Term limits" are built-into the act of voting.
If idiots still keep electing fools, term after term, then we need to educate either the idiots or the fools—or both. Or, maybe, we need to become somewhat more politically active.
The Founders required one to own property (that is, land) before being allowed to vote. The minimum voting age was set at 21 years.
We have allowed the Progressives to change this radically, to the country's detriment.
Jake, you are young, and maybe you won't like this: I firmly believe that we should raise the voting age back to 21, or maybe even 25. I also firmly believe that we should re-institute some sort of financial requirement, for instance that one must have paid federal income tax for the year previous to being allowed to vote. I would leave it to the several states, whether to require payment of state income tax to be allowed to vote (for instance: Washington has no income tax).
As Steve mentions, there have been several questionable revisions to the Constitution, mostly in the progressive direction. Another was to popular election of Senators vs selection by State governments. If the Senators still worked for governors and state legislators there there would be no unfunded mandates.
Another bingo.
And once in a while one of them let's the cat out of the bag and shows their real colors. Example, this link. And they think people on the right side of the political fence are radicals.

I further suggest that you follow The New York Times link, and read the op-ed piece in its original, for yourself.
I was left so speechless that I could only repeat the famous words of that entirely-patriotic, intensely revolutionary, Oscar-winning rabbit, Bugs Bunny himself: "What a maroon! Such an embezzle! Why, he's a nin-cow-poop!"
I shall do that right now. You know, it's pretty clear that you and I hail from a different time with different values and a different culture than what we see permeating the current contemporary America. Truth be known, I'll be 67 this month and it saddens me to see my nation actually taking the direction the radicals prayed for in the 60's. Here's another interesting article to read when you have a moment.
