I currently carry a Beretta PX 4 Compact but have never gotten comfortable with it and have decided to move on. I've got around $600.00 to spend and have been considering the following, M&P 9 C (love the way my M&P 45 FS shoots) and XDM 9 (whatever the compact is, 3.8?). Has anyone had experience with both and how do they compare? Any other options I haven't considered? Migh think about the G19 thou never been excited about the look of the Glocks.
The M&P 9c is a great little gun, for conceal carry. The G19 is a great gun as well, but I do not like glocks at all. Between the smith and XD my choice would be the smith. I have run both guns and the smith comes out on top for me....
I have no shooting experience with either,but the Smith has a nice fit for me.The XD feels closer to the Glock's oddness,but this was an early XD when they came out.It looks like the new version had changed some.If it doesn't have to be a striker gun,you can find a good used HK P2000 easy for that price.I don't know how modular they are though in the trigger system,some like them and some don't.In the USP and HK45 there are 3 variations of LEM (DAO/striker type design) that range from 4.5-8lbs,but you have second stike capability.Size wise I think the HK will be a touch larger,but HK's are very accurate and their reliability is second to none,Glock included.
I love my 9c. But I have also put a lot into it with sites, trigger work, and A-grips. Of course, I was willing to put this money into it because I like it so much.
Might want to check out Ruger SR9c or SR40c, if your looking for compact......and you could save yourself $200.....I have the SR40, and really like it...I am biased towards another manufacturer, but I was suprised at how nice a firearm the Ruger is for the $$$$$$$$$$
If you like the M&P's that is a logical choice.
M&P's a great gun. Really easy to carry.
You're moving on from an exceptional DA/SA CCW pistol, I have one and w/o a doubt one of the most accurate 9's I've ever shot. I enjoy splitting straws @ 15 yards w/ it for kicks and shooting heads off copperheads on occasion. I've found you do not want to stage the first DA pull, but hold on target and follow through. Rest assured those pistols mentioned have nothing on the PX4 compact. Just a personel observation on putting on a Hogue grip secured w/ goop on the compact is the ticket for me, as i've tried every backstrap but the Hogue grip makes a profound difference in how I shoot it..Quote:

Ok, I shelled out the $450.00 and picked up a brand new M&P9C. Called Comfort Tuk the next day and for $70.00 they sent me a new IWB holster which I had two days later (great fit, service and warranty). Took it to the range for a 100 round break in and I believe it already, for me, is outshooting the Beretta. Not down to the 1.75" groups at 25' of the M&P45FS but still better than the PX4C. I do intend to drop in an Apex sear, thats what I did to the 45 to make it that much better, hopefully it will have the same affect on the 9.
