Hello from the foothills of the Ozarks
New to the forum, not new to handguns or the web (or to life)
Read the forum off and on for a year, decided it was a pretty good place to park for awhile.
US Army vet '64-'84 11B with a fair amount of suffixes.
'65-'66- Korea, 1st Cav Division, later designated 2D Inf Division
'68-'69-Viet Nam 101st Airborne Division
'71-'74-Okinawa 1st Special Forces Group with trips to a whole lot of countries
'78-'79-Korea 8th Army (Staff job-sucked)
'81-82-Korea 2D Infantry Division, north of the Imjin
Bunch of places in between, including Ft Knox, Ft Benning, Ft Bragg, Ft Carson, Ft Lewis, Ft Ord.
My login name reflects a big chunk of my life...it defines me.
Second career in the telecommunications field (along with a few other jobs to get me and my family by when I used the GI bill to learn a more "civilized" trade.
Now retired
Guns currently in the safe or close at hand:
Semi-autos:
Walther P22 (on loan to a friend because his arthritis won't let him rack the slide on his .45)
S&W BG380
Bersa Thunder 9 HC
Springfield 1911 A1 "loaded"
Wheelguns:
S&W Model 36 .38 "snubby"
S&W Model 27 .357
Ruger GP100 6" bbl .357 with a Red Dot sight I use for hunting hogs
Colt Officers Model .38 6" bbl (inherited family gun with the best trigger job I've ever seen-I don't shoot it much, but I really love the trigger)
and a Webley Mark V with a shot out barrel that I keep on the tractor or mower loaded with birdshot to take care of the cottonmouths.
I won't list the guns I used to own but decided to trade or sell for one reason or another (just in case my wife stumbles across this post)
And a whole bunch of long guns, in various calibers, shotguns, muzzleloaders, and a xbow.
I hunt and Arkansas allows me to do that...a lot. Oh, and I fish too...when I'm not hunting.
As you can see, I'm not tied to any particular brand; I only require the guns do what I ask them to do when I ask them to do it and that they take whatever "boo-lets" I choose to feed them without issue.
My normal carry pistol is the 1911...I like them and after 20+ years in the Army, they are an extension of my arm, plus that big ol' .45 round has a lot of knockdown power, although there is much to be said for the 17 +1 9mm.
I don't care what "you" choose to shoot and will not knock your choice(s)...I don't know what your budget is, what your experiences are, or how the gun feels to you.
I just know any gun is better than no gun when you need it.
That's about it.
