suggestion for recreational 9mm?

I'm thinking of getting a mid-sized 9mm auto primarily for light recreational shooting. Bulls-eye targets, something that won't look too sick but the groups don't have to be competition quality. The S & W SD9 seems about right: moderately priced, good mag. capacity, seems pretty reliable. US-made is nice, too. Sights only fair, but I can't remember ever adjusting a pistol's sights before, so that may not be a problem. Any other suggestions in this neighborhood?

DAO is not something I've tried before, so I'm not sure if I'll like that. I guess I should rent a DAO first at the range and try it out...

Dollar for dollar probably the best all around is the Glock 19...You can pick up a used in excellant cond for 375/400...If you don`t like it you won`t lose when you sell it if you buy used....CZ75 is always a good choice very good gun for cheap money...Jim

I finally noticed the recent "9mm Fun Pistol" thread, which is essentially the same topic! I'll study that.

At first glance, it sounds like the Sig SP2022 would be a better choice then the SD9, since it can switch from DA/SA to DAO, if I understand what I just read correctly.

Try to look at the SP2022 in 9mm, it fits your needs and is USA made with a lifetime warranty.....first shot is DA...then subsequent are SA.....I have two and love em ....CDNN has them for about 369. ......JJ

I just picked up a Beretta 92fs, shot it for the 1st time last Sunday, shoots great i love it

A friend of mine bought one of these as a range toy,,,
Just over $400.00 for a 9mm semi-auto and a .22 LR upper.

Click here please,,,

According to him it eats Federal bulk pack .22 like candy,,,
And after he's through shooting it with his two kids,,,
He pops the 9mm upper on it for serious fun.

I've only fired it once,,,
It felt a lot like my CZ-75B.

It seemed like a very nice pistol,,,
My friend surely likes his.

Stoeger makes a great 9mm. The Couger. Stoeger bought the Couger from Beretta. Great price for a great gun.
I would recommend the Couger to anyone. I had a .40 Couger and sold it. I wish I haden't.

Either Stoeger Cougar or FNP-9. Both excellent pistols for under $500

I own both of these and have been very happy with them. These are well regarded, time-tested, reliable, and moderately priced. You can't go wrong with either of them.

Depending upon your preference for size, you can go full size with the Glock 17 and compact with the CZ-75 compact model as well.

Problem being those seem impossible to find currently. I was looking for one last week and could not find anyone that had them in stock?

Yes - this is another good choice if you can find one. My brother was lucky enough to score this combo deal from Bud's a few months ago. I have shot it, both calibers. It's very nice, seems well made, and is just an amazing deal. My brother says he's experienced a few FTFs with the 22LR - the 9mm performance has been 100% reliable.

I would have no problem getting a Witness 9mm - even without the combo. Reviews and feedback, as well as my limited personal experience, all seem positive. BUT... if you're not looking at the combo deal -- just the 9mm -- then you may find that you're relatively close to the same price as the CZ-75 which is "the read deal" -- it's what the Witness is based on. I got the CZ instead (didn't need the 22LR functionality). Not trying to sell the CZ, but if you ever consider the Witness then it's worth your time to take a look at the CZ as well.

I'm a big CZ fan, and I could find nothing wrong with the one EAA clone of it that I fired a magazine through. The price is definitely right, and if it holds true to the CZ-75 design, the .22 kit will be a nice addition. I have the Kadet kit for my CZ-75B, and it is the most accurate .22 pistol I have fired.

Want a recreational 9mm, then I would suggest getting one that is big and heavy. "Big" will give you a long sight radius and "heavy" will reduce the felt recoil. A full-sized, all-steel 1911 in 9mm would be a good choice. I have an all-steel, full-sized EAA Witness in 9mm and it is a pleasure to shoot. I also have a Sig P226 and Sig SP2022. The P226 is heavier and more fun to shoot than the SP2022.
