I'm a GA resident and wanted to take my handgun to NY when I visit family so I checked their gun laws. I did see that NY will not reciprocate my legal carry permit, trashes and violates 80% if the 2nd Amendment and prohibits me from having any legal right to self-defense, but there is nothing published restricting the magazine limit in a handgun. There is an extensive section on Assault Weapons which pretty much rules out owning everything except single shot Daisy Red Ryder BB rifles (well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration) but the only pistol restriction listed there is ones that accept a detachable magazine OUTSIDE of the grip.
All firearms sold new in NYS come with a 10 round magazine. I haven't seen an FNX-9 for sale, but other handguns (like my Walther P-99) that have a standard capacity of more than 10 are available here.
The FNX is legal in NY. You just need to have 10 round mags instead of the typical 16 or 17 rounders. If your having it shipped from an online retailer either have 10 rounders shipped with it or NO MAGS shipped with it. The "hi cap" mags must be removed before shipping or the gun will be sent back by the ffl to have them removed and then sent back.
I live in NY just outside the albany area and have a FNP-9 and FNP-40 FDE myself. In the process of finding a FNP-45.
You can buy "California" legal FNX's with the 10 round magazines. Ca's rules are the same as NY. I Think Impact Guns, Cheaper Than Dirt, and USAuto Weapons sell them with the 10 round magazines.
Thanks. USAutoweapons is first I've seen with the 10rd.
Just in the last week or so, since Michael1945 provided the tip, I have seen the FNX-9 popping up in 10rd at several dealers. Two weeks ago, not one dealer I checked with (and I checked many) had heard of it. Sure enough, a poster on a Glock forum claims that FNH USA cs emailed him in late April that the 10rd was finished testing and going into production for dealer availability in May. So, went ahead and got me one...thx to all for the help.
