A man who really likes Revolvers broke down and bought himself a semi-auto...

I've thought for many years now, that out of the semi-autos I owned when I was younger (.25, .380, 9mm, .40S&W, .45ACP), the one that I really liked best was a 1911 45 Auto variant. I've been telling myself that if I ever bought another Semi-Auto, I wanted another 1911 variant.

I recently purchased a Remington 1911R1, and I believe it to be an awesome choice overall, but there is too much travel in the trigger. It has a light trigger pull, compared to inexpensive Revolvers, but the trigger comes back, and back, and back before it fires. I'd like the travel to be half what it is now. I'm afraid that I'll pull a little off-target trying to engage my target in the heat of the moment.

The amount of trigger movement it takes to actually fire a typical 1911 is rather short. But many have a lot of slack in the triggers. The first part of the pull is just taking up the slack. Only at the very end of the travel does the trigger actually engage the sear and fire the gun. There is no quick/easy way to eliminate the slack. At least that I know of. Some other 1911 experts on here may know.

I believe the new Ruger SR 1911 has an adjustment for the trigger, but you will play hell getting one as they are scarce still....JJ

Yes, they do have an over-travel adjustment screw.

I now have two of the Ruger 1911's. :mrgreen:
