Longer ranges shift to center hold and aim high as needed.
Some of my guns are zeroed for a 6 o'clock hold at 25 yards. At 50 yards I hold dead center. Works for me.
If it will satisfy the gentlemen who have questioned me, most of my .44 Magnum revolvers are sighted in so that point of impact is 3" above point of aim at twenty-five yards.
This is the best I can explain it.
As to why I hit high on said ground hog, its probably due to imperfections on my part, that is, I THOUGHT I was aiming at center of its chest while I was actually aiming slightly higher.
He's still dead, not likely to recover.
