Camping/Shooting question

Greetings all,

I was wondering where a good place might be in a national forest area where one could find a solitary spot (away from family camping areas) to camp overnight (1 night), be free to safely target shoot and be able to have a small campsite with campfire.

Have been doing a lot of searching on web... have accumulated a number of maps to determine national forest locations, dispersed camping areas, restricted areas to avoid and so forth. It's a bit confusing.

Where does one go, legally, to be in the middle of nowhere and be able to do these things?

My memory is a little fuzzy, but wasn't concealed carry just recently allowed in national forests? My thinking is that you won't be allowed to target practice, you'll have to find a range or a friend with a field or something for that, but I'd find it hard to believe that you couldn't just go camp there for a night. The fire would depend on any burn bans in your area due to a lack of rain. You should be able to check online for some more information. Just google the national park/forest you want to go to, it'll probably have a website.

Let us know what answer you come up with, I'd like to know more about what is allowed/not allowed in parks! :watching:

It's the national parks that just started allowing carry (depending on state law). The national forests have no problem w/ it as far as I am aware, so long as it's legal in your state.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think you can go shooting in National Forest areas. You just have to avoid the restricted areas.

Regarding the campfires, ty and yes I came across some website info regarding that. They are pretty firm on what they'll allow, and where.

For simplicity sake, I suppose I'll have to conduct the two activities independently of each other....shooting in known legal/safe areas, camping in designated areas.

I suppose it's possible to drive way out into "No Man's Land" public areas (non-reservation/park) with nothing around you for many miles, shoot responsibly, then sit down on a rock to have a sandwich while burning a candle tumbleweed
