FNP 9 Break in Period

Next weekend I will be acquiring my recently purchased FNP 9…..My first hand gun purchase. I see many threads where a “Break in Period” is mentioned. To those of you who have experience with this particular weapon what would you consider the break in period to be (assuming one does exist) ?

I never experienced a FTF or stovepipe problem when using factory ammo intended for personal protection in my new FNP-9. But I did initially when using light handloads until I fired a few hundred heavier loads. It does have a rather stiff recoil spring. As for factory ammo intended for practice and plinking, I can only surmise that as long as the fodder isn't too mild, it should function smoothly in it.

For the sake of elaboration, I replaced the factory 14# recoil spring in my S&W 915 with an aftermarket Wolff 18# spring to better handle the heavier loads I use in it; as well as to prevent the brass that I reload from ejecting clear across the range. But I can no longer use the same light handloads in this particular pistol that I did before switching to a stiffer recoil spring, which doesn't break my heart, since, aside from plinking sessions, I prefer to practice these days with hotter loads anyway.

I used to be the admin of the FN Forum, and I have some experience with the FNP. They pretty much have a recoil spring that's almost too powerful for the gun until its broken in.

The standard "pre shooting" breakin for people at the Fn Forum for FNPs - Is to work the slide by hand a couple hundred times (seriously). Then, leave the slide locked back for about a week. Maybe cycle it by hand a bunch of times throughout the week as well.

Then, maybe try to shoot some 124gr NATO WWB - has a little more kick. People use that to break in some of the 9mm HKs because of the strong recoil springs some of them have.

You may not need to do any of this - but we've all seen enough complaints about the 1st range trip with an FNP that this is what many of us have done and it seems to work.

Also, if ejected cases knock you in the head, that will slowly disappear as you close in around the 1000 round mark.

I personally am not a huge fan of the FNP because of all this nonsense ya gotta do.

I took my FNP-9 right to the range after a good cleaning and lub and fire 200 rnds thru it with no problems. have fired it every weekend since and the only problem i have with it, it want's to consume large amounts of ammo:rolleyes: It really shoots sweet, I have to limit myself because I hate to put it down. :smt066:smt066:smt066

I've put over 1000 rnds through my FNP 40 with no jams, stovepipes or other issues since day one.

I bought a FNP 9 yesterday.

My range was on the way home.

So I did something I rarely do.:oops:

I wiped it down on the outside and put 100 rounds through it. :rolleyes:

I didn't have any problems (I was lucky) and I like the gun.

I've now cleaned the gun and greased the rails, like I was supposed to do.
