.... With having your weapon's serial number publicly displayed? I see pics and videos of peoples gun with the serial edited out, etc. What could someone possibly do, knowing what serial number your weapon is. Could a BG lookup who owns what and potentially steal your gun? I guess I'm just ignorant. Any thoughts on this?
Have kind of wondered the same thing myself. The other one I wonder about iis the photo of a HG cocked w/hammer back and a pen, shell, small flashlight, etc. stuck in the trigger.
ooooo, I know about the thing stuck in the trigger guard. Its for displaying your gun. You can try it yourself, it makes taking a picture of your firearm better than just an overhead view of it laying on the table. It kinda props it up, almost like making it say cheeeeeeze!
I would think it had something to do with registration more so then about BG’s, something that’s supposed to be illegal for the Government to do.Quote:

I like the anonymity of the web - unless I want someone to know who I am - and I'm sure that is part of it.
In reality it's pretty easy if someone wanted to trace your username back to a person so if one wanted to dig enough and had a little computer know how it's not as hard to get the serial off a gun weather it's been smudged or not.The only real plus to hiding it is if there might be an issue with someone owning a weapon that the serial might cause them problems. All the Mod+ on this board should have access to most of the logs and IPs are logged. But the other simple truth is it's just way too much a waste of time to go through all that. So hiding the serial is a non issue for me. All my weapons were bought legally they all will come back to me. Even when I trade person to person I write up a bill of sale with the serial on it and both myself and the new owner get a copy for their records. THe worst case scenario l is someone sees a serial then tries to report it stolen. God record keeping makes the point moot. And unless you do all your shopping personm to person there is already a pretty long paper trail to you from that weapon.
