Do I object to rapid fire?

Genuine rapid fire doesn't bother me. That is, aimed, accurate, rapid fire. What does bother me is the shooter who takes up the position immediately to my left and begins the brass shower.

Or the near-full auto fire that goes down range splintering target frames or richocheting over the berm.

So long as you are safe, non-destructive and don't encroach on someone else's pleasure, then I have no contention with rapid fire. But when rapid fire starts detracting from the pleasure of other shooters, then its time to show a little consideration.

Good manners apply at the range, too.

The rifle range I go to does not allowed rapid firing semi auto rifles, but does allow rapid firing handguns. I really don't get any negative reactions except from the guys who try and act like they are professional teachers and then end up trying to fire the gun with the safty still on. Those type of guys bug me, but as long as they aren't interferring with my shooting, then I couldn't care less what they think.

I do love the challenge involved in rapid firing because it's not hard to fire a semi auto handgun at almost full auto speeds, but like Bob Wright said, accuracy is where the challenge is. When I am shooting a handgun normally, I shoot from 10 yards away, but when rapid firing I do it from like 5 yards. I'm hitting in the black section of my target so that's all that matters. I'm not just making a "brass shower". Although I have been known to do that on occasions. Heck, I payed for the ammo so I should be able to shoot it as fast as I want. :wink: :-D

I think that is Bob's point. A little courtesy, and actually caring about your neighbor in the shooting lane next to you, goes a long way toward promoting our sport.

Yea, I can understand the occassional double tap, or a mag or so in rapid fire. But I have seen idiots at the range before who shoot, and shoot, and shoot fast, and they hit ZERO. It's annoying too, because the fast fire messes w/ your concentration.

Yet another reason why I don't go to the range to shoot. Living out in the middle of the desert does have some advantages...

Maybe its time for your shooting range to invest in brass catchers. They fit most anything - no? BTW I found out its not a good idea to shoot across your truck hood. All that brass hits the windshield - lodges in your engine, etc. Not fun - even in the desert - lol

Well said! My sentiments exactly!

i never have that problem my yard is my range and one target area is just for that or change up drills from pistol to rifle or back the other is pistol to shotgun and back
