Just found this site two days ago and liked it right off the bat. I've been looking for a 9mm for fun on the range and home protection on and off for years (decades!) but never take the dive. Started looking again recently. I am currently spending time reading about the FNH FNP-9, Ruger P95, and Stoeger Cougar. Last year included the CZ 100 as well. Anyway, I'll be digging into the related threads in search of more info. Great site.

Welcome to the forum! I'm a new member here as well, and from Ohio originally. I used to shoot at a range just north of Canton called A&A Shooting and gun club. It was/is way out in the middle of nowhere on Fenstermaker road, just near Nelson Ledges Road Course. In between courses of fire we would listen to all the racing going on in the background!
Hey jfmartin25, it's been a few years now but my first 15 working years were spent as a racecar mechanic. I have travelled around the world but Nelson Ledges is still one of my favorite layouts! I am trying to get my bro in law to take his nearly-done FFR Cobra replica up there next year (to learn how to drive it!). I do vaguely remember a range in Garrettsville. Maybe that's your place?
...for anything that can arise, you'd be hard pressed to beat the Ruger P95...and you can find the stainless, pre-rail, safety or decocker models for around $325 even after gun prices have shot up...with 15-round magazines you've got a hard-working, very reliable weapon without breaking the bank...and money left over to start stocking ammo....
... so it would only make sense that the p95 was the only one that Gander Mtn. did NOT have upon my visit yesterday!! More about my visit is attached to a thread in the FN forum here.

Oh man, I'm a huge FFR Cobra nut too...I just haven't made taken the plunge and bought one yet. I was getting set up to do a 289FIA style with under-body exhaust and roll bar through the passenger footwell, and planned on shaving the 427 fender flares...had the 289 Block on an engine stand in my garage, APR hardware, JE Pistons, etc. etc., was about to order the kit and then the economy tanked. I still check their website for "specials" all the time, but my inner voice keeps telling me not to do it until the time is just right!Quote:

Found out last night that my LEO bro in law got his LEO wife a compact XD9. Got to look it over and while I haven't looked into compacts (large hands) hers felt very comfortable. Not much different in feel than the service version to my untrained hands. He is going to give his usual contact a call with my short list to see what kind of deals he may be able to work. Not sure about state to state transfer at this point (PA to OH) so the whole idea may be moot. I also have a (police detective) friend who has said he has a few guys he can call as well. No sales at the local shops currently and no shows scheduled for a while.
