Selling a gun and Honesty?

Let me hear your opinions, if you don't mind.

I'm trying to sell a gun right now (a Kahr PM9 I've talked about in the Kahr forum here). After recently shooting it with my wife, I'm beginning to think it's the shooter and not so much the gun. My wife didn't have any problems with the gun until the end of the night when her hands were sore/tired, but I had stoppages here and there throughout the night; I don't think I can grip it as well with my larger (than her) hands.

So, I've got it listed for sale and I openly stated this issue and that I believe it's the shooter and not so much the gun. I want to be honest and not dump a gun on someone, especially when it will most likely be used for CC (It's a concealed carry forum).

My question is, how many people would be this honest? I'm sure I've screwed myself by being honest, but darnit, that's just how I am. I've had one or two nibbles on it, but nothing serious. I've stated it's LNIB with about 500 rds through it, 3 mags and box/paperwork, night sights. I believe, and have been told, I've asked a reasonable price. I just don't need this gun, whether it's 100% reliable or not, I'd like something a little larger.

I'm sure it's a personal decision, but there's an upcoming gun show: Disclose this info, or keep it quiet and sell as is? Thoughts? :smt102

Stay true to yourself and disclose if that is your nature. Someone will come along. If you tell them everything, you're not going to have it eating away at you wondering if you should have said something. Sell it with a good conscience. I sold a bike a couple years ago and disclosed everything. Even took close-up pictures of the damage from a crash. The buyer appreciated the honesty and I knew he knew exactly what he was getting. There were no surprises for anyone.

Also, if the person that buys it is going to use it for CC, then they're pretty damn dumb not to run a few hundred rounds through it to make sure it functions properly before they start carrying it.

If nobody minds me asking, what do you want for it??

I don't mind, and as long as it's okay to mention here, (Mods, delete, if needed) as it's not in the For Sale section, my original asking price was $635 and I've come down to $600, which was my target (needed a little wiggle room). BTW, it's the silver stainless slide.

I've got a good reputation on that forum, too, so it's not Joe Schmoe selling it, lol. The first gun I sold on there was a 1911 with some issues here and there, nothing bad. I disclosed that as well, but it sold immediately. I'm banking that people are shying away as this one's a CC piece.

I would think the opposite, but that's me. Now that more people are getting CCW permits it shouldn't last long.

If you believe it's the shooter and not the gun then there was no need to disclose any information that you cannot confirm. However, I believe your honest opinion would be appreciated and people can take what you've stated into consideration.

I agree....honesty is best. Someone will come along that is looking for what you have for sale. I just put my Kahr Mk9 up for consignment at my local gunshop for almost the same reason. It shoots well, I just want to use a snub .38 for CC, the Kahr is just not as comfortable for me.

Thank you for the comments, guys! You're right, I'll be patient and I'm sure something will come along. I haven't listed it for sale here because I've never sold a gun out-of-state and am a little hesitant. I think I might reconsider though. :smt023

Selling out of state isn't a problem, as I understand, I always insist on shipping the firearm to a FFL holder of the buyers choice. Good Luck..

Thought I would bring this back to the top to say I've ordered a new, beefier recoil spring after asking around on AR15.com. Gonna give this a shot and will reply back with results! Well...I'll reply if work ever settles down allowing me to go get some results, lol. :mrgreen:

id say honesty is the best policy, i sell on ebay alot and ive sold broken items, hell most of the things i sell are broke, (not guns of course) but i always state the nature of the products and ive never had a problem, and someone will become interested eventually one ans trash is another mans treasure

I've read this twice and I'm still not sure why you're putting a heavier recoil spring in the gun?

You really didn't go into the actual probelms you are having with the gun other than stoppages.

If you think a heavier recoil spring is going to reduce the recoil of the gun then you are in for a rude awakening - it won't. It may even cause more problems like FTF.

No, I'm trying the heavier spring because the problem is its failure to return to battery. Acts like it needs just a little more "umpf" to get it there. My point, mainly, with this thread was to get the opinions of others regarding the sale of a gun that may, or may not (shooter), have issues. I was wondering if people disclose such info, that's all.

I put the heavier spring on a couple of days ago, but did not have a chance to shoot it yet. If the problems persist, I will put the old spring back on and ship it to Kahr. I contacted them and explained the problem. The fellow on the phone said that if the spring swap didn't work then the extractor may be a little tight and they'd take care of it. For $15, I figured it couldn't hurt to try the new spring. I can already tell it's heavier, it was a PITA to put on, lol.

Any weapon I've sold I've always told everything. I've had some that I just didn't shoot as well and I've had some that I just flat out didn't like after I got home with them.Some had issues. Some might do the omitting thing or dance around the truth but I'm not one that can do that. If I end up taking a hit on it then that's on me being I'm the one that is taking what someone is giving. But I don't want to have something on my conscience that could get someone in a bind. I'm like that with anything I sell though. I don't like when it's done to me so I wont do it to another person. If anyone wants to do business that way then that's on them and I am not going to pass judgment though either. They have to be able to live with what they do. As do I. If they can then they can. I just file the info in the back of my head and use that info when it's them trying to make me the buyer.

Gotcha just wasn't sure what the original problem was.

As far as the original post like everyone here honesty is the best policy - you disclose what you know and they take the risk.

I had a puke green Datsun B-210 station wagon with 250,000 miles which was my beater to take hunting and fishing. When I had to move I sold it telling the buyer all that I had replaced and the problems which still exist. They asked if I guaranteed it? No I say I've disclosed truthfully all that I know is wrong with the beast and it's up to you to decide if it is right for you. I came back to VA after a 3 year tour in Scotland and I saw that very car still running around town.

Point is I don't want my conscience bothering me so - like you - I feel disclosure is the best policy and if they still want the product then good luck to them.

Well, originally this wasn't intended to be a technical discussion thread, but as it sorta wandered that way, I thought I'd post back with an update.

I put that heavier recoil spring on and just shot 50 more FMJ through it. It did really well! There were two stoppages (failure to go to battery) that I can attribute to my limp wristing. I know I just wasn't gripping the gun tight enough. After it happened, I'd tighten up my grip and never had any other issues. Phew!!
