ammo question

hey, has anyone had any accuracy problems with magtech ammo? i recently purchased an H&K USPc .40 and love it, went to the range using speer ammo and did very well. went back to the range with magtech 180gr. fmc and did absolutely lousy!! extremely dirty ammo, and serious muzzle flash that i didnt notice with the speer ammo. (of course it may have just been the excitement of shooting my new gun for the first time that i didnt notice) but seriously, i was shooting all over the place, now im no sharp shooter by any means but this was just ridiculous. is it possible that the ammo caused me to have a horrible range experience or is it more likely that i was just having a seriously off day???

You didn't say what type of Magtech ammo you were using. I've had nothing but good luck with their higher end self-defense ammo. I've also used their middle of the road FMJ stuff without any complaints. However, those were always in calibers other that the .40.

If you are shooting "all over the place" with quality factory ammo (which Magtech is), and a quality handgun (which your HK also is), it is much more likely to be a problem with the operator than the ammo.

I would almost assume that if you were having accuracy problems that would have to do with your gun, not the ammo.. or just how your holding the gun.. are you anticipating recoil?

Every firearm is different,even the same models. What shoots great in yours may be terrible in mine. You have to find what shoots well in your individual weapon and go wth that.

That is very true, I would wonder though if the difference is as dramatic as the OP has made it sound. The weapon will shoot some ammo better than others but if it's decent ammo to begin with then I'd lean more to the operator if the change was that dramatic. Maybe the ammo is a little hotter and that's causing a flinch. Bad habits can creep up on us and we never see it until the problem is pretty big. Maybe having someone else to try the weapon with the "problem ammo" The best way to figure out a problem sometimes is weeding out what it's not.

You could let someone else shoot your weapn with that ammo and see what happens. It could very well be the ammo and not you. Why not try another brand of ammo along with the other on the same range trip and see what happens?
