Ok, so this might be a little premature since I do not have my pistol in my hands yet but I wanted to see what was available for aftermarket grips for my Beretta PX4 9mm. I cannot find ANYTHING! Anyone have any advise, links, otherwise?:smt076:mrgreen:
As with most poly frames there are no real options for aftermarket grips. You could apply a Hogue slip on like the one pictured below, but in the realm of aftermarket grips if you don't have a conventional metal frame with grip panels attached, you don't have many options at all. Crimson Trace has a "snap-on" style for poly frames that you may consider looking into if the slip on type doesn't thrill you.

appreciate the tip...fortunately I do like the stock feel, but knowng myslef, I will probably be looking for extras before too long. I wish there was a swappable attachment type of application for the grip. O well, I will most likely end up with one of these slip ons. Are they pretty much universal or do they make them for specific models?
Being you don't have it yet, Is it safe to assume you haven't shot one yet? I'd highly recommend shooting it first before spending money on something you might not need. Gadgets and gizmos are fun, but the gun will do just fine without them, if you will put some time and effort into training with it. Changing things for changings sake, in my opinion is a waste of money that could be spent on more ammo or some instructor training. Those will both probably serve you much better than a new set of grips, especially with a wee 9mm.
I have one gun that I've ever added to or changed and it's my AR-15. All my pistols are stock, mainly because that's how they were designed to run. People often times get caught up in the hoopla about "faster lock times" or "reduced recoil" or "extended anythings". Don't get me wrong, some of those things are really cool, but they don't improve a persons shooting beyond their skill level. A bunch of quality trigger time and focus, in lieu of those, will far surpass the gains made by the 3.5lb trigger pull, or the 0.002 seconds faster lock time with a skeletonized firing pin and stuff like that. Most people just don't shoot well enough to benefit from the small but expensive changes they make to their firearms.
Just some food for thought. If you've got the money to blow, do whatever you want, but in my experience, it's better to buy more ammo for more quality practice time. Enjoy your new shooter.
I have not shot one yet but as I said before, I do like the way it feels in my hand as is. The stock grip is very comfortable and will function well. I was just more curious than anything to see what was available out there. I do agree with you that quality trigger time is vital. I was just hoping that I had some options to change the grips and have some fun with it too :)
I will just say that for me the "tackyness" of the Hogue rubber grips makes my grip that much more solid. I have a LOT of experience with handguns and the only major drawback of poly frames is that ANY amount of moisture (ambient or perspiration) can make a good grip slip during firing. Some people have chosen to use dremel tools or woodburners to make or exagerate the stippling on their polymers (like Glocks, mostly). I personally would NOT recommend doing such as that to me changes the integrity of the design and could possibly lead to a failure.
Instead of the Hogue, you could try using some grip tape (skateboard tape, same thing) or a section of an old bike inner tube as a slip on. Hogue makes two slip ons. The one pictured is the larger and it comes with or without the finger grooves, and a smaller one that comes only without the finger grooves. I have the smaller one on my P22. I would WAG that the smaller one would be too small for your PX4.

I think the rubber grip on the PX4 looks pretty good. I will hold off for at least a while, put some rounds through it and see what I think after that. If I wanted the grip pictured here, where would I order it?Quote:
