Transporting/ "Carrying" quest.

In the county I live in, there are several restrictions or levels of handgun permit issued. Obviously concealed carry is self explanatory. If issued a hunting/target type pistol permit though, would it be illegal to carry concealed on your way to and from hunting or target shooting at a range? I know the quick obvious answer is,"Duh stupid, of course it is!" But technically, is it? After doing some quick research, I cant seem to find anything that addresses this. Anyone know for sure or know where this could be found?

I would suggest that you contact the office of your local district attorney.

Did you mean "county" or "country"? Most gun laws are handled at the state level, and I can't say I've heard of a state with more than two levels of permit: possession and concealed carry (maybe open carry, not sure).

In addition to what Gearheart recommended, I'd also add your local PD, and your state attorney general's office. Also try http://www.carryconcealed.net.

Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer. However, I'm almost positive you'd get in serious trouble with what you propose. The only states that allow concealed carry without a concealed carry license are Alaska and Vermont. Every other state requires a valid permit to be carrying concealed for any reason.

If you have a gun that is accessible to you but not in plain sight, you have a concealed weapon. If you don't have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, you're breaking the law unless, as stated, you are in Alaska or Vermont. It doesn't matter where you are going or coming from. It's pretty black and white. "Well technically I'm legal" doesn't cut it.

This thread has the feeling of going borderline "How do I skirt the law", so it's done.
