I am heading to the gun show this afternoon, I am gonna try to trade off this Colt Frontier Scout for something I will actually shoot. My HOPE is that I can find a used Kahr CW45 I can trade for. Will people usually trade at gun shows?? I havnt been to one in YEARS!!!
P.S. I am taking my nephew and he has a felony conviction on his record. It is several years old and he has had his record ecspunged, but he still cant pass the NCIS check do they do a backgorund check at gun shows?
I just love going to the gun show. I always have to go look at everything and usually will take something in to trade off. Good luck in your hunt :smt023
Here in NY, you have to do a background check for any gun sold at a gun show - even if its between two private parties. The State Police are pretty vigilant about this to the point of arresting people making deals in the parking lot.
If you're thinking about buying a gun for your nephew because he can't pass a background check, you should probably reconsider. I'm not a cop or a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure you could both get a set of matching bracelets for doing something like that.
That is true...If your nephew is caught with the gun he's in a world of trouble. and if they can trace it back to who bought it for him then you wont be able to pass a background check anymore.

Got back from the gun show a little while ago... I just finished cleaning and checking out my new KAHR CW45!!! This gun is THIN!!!! and has a great feel to it, it fits my hand PERFECT! My two complaints are; it feels a little overly front heavy (havnt loaded yet so that might fix it) and the trigger has an edge at the top that is not real comfortable on the finger during pull. I will take it to the range tommorrow and put a couple of hundred rounds through it. I also need to sight in my Leupuld scope I got at the GS.
Oh I meant to ridicule you guys some, I posted a whole long post and THE ONLY thing most of you saw was the straw purchase thing! LMAO talk about folks ready to flame. I am now officially coining a new phrase

Considering that part of your post was concerning illegal activity which would be a serious offense, then I don't blame everybody on commenting on it. On top of that, the discussion of illegal activity is not allowed on this site. This needs more detail! How did the trading go? Did you get your price for your gun? Did you find a deal on the new one?
As for rules, I bought a Ruger 10/22 (pre-warning, walnut stock, beautiful condition) from a private party at a show last month. I handed him the cash, he handed me the rifle. It wasn't until I was in my car on the way home I realized I didn't even get a hand-written receipt from him.
In Washington, private party sales are not restricted. I don't need a license. I don't need a background check. I don't need to smooch any bureaucratic hiney of any kind. I just double-checked the NRA state laws page and found that Washington theoretically has a 5-day waiting period for handguns purchased from a dealer. My waiting period was about 30 minutes -- I wonder if this doesn't a apply with online background checks?
I had people fighting over the Colt frontier scout as soon as I walked in the building LOL I finally settled on an offer of 500 for it and sold it and an Old 243 hunting rifle with a bushnell scope on it for 225. bought the cw45 NIB for 425 took the wife out to dinner and a got a New scope for my 270. I am going back tommorrow and gonna try to pick up a new knife or two and maybe trade off a couple of old single shot shotguns I have and get a Pistol Gripped folding stock 870. I was AMAZED at the interest I got in the little colt revolver, at one point I had two men fighting over it I finally said I will just sell it to someone else. A guy at a table behind me handed me 500 and said I will take it. (the two old men had been haggling about 475-490 and who got there first and how rude it is to try and butt in on someones deal at a gun show. I really had a lot of fun and saw A LOT of guns I want. I really want another 9mm to shoot some competitions with so I may go look for either a glock 17l, 34, or a CZ75 tommorrow. My only disappoinment was I kinda secretly hoped the guys from Wilson Combat were there. I REALLY!!! want someone to talk me into a WC 1911 LOL
