One, or any legaly registered?

Hi fellow Michiganders.

I understand things have changed since I used to carry
a 357 revolver back in the 70's. ( the only gun I owned )

I have several pistols now and need to take a course and pay more money
to the police who issue the licence to carry.( it's been too many years
since I renewed my CCW )

My question is this: Once you have your licence to carry, can you carry any of your registered pistols? Or, does the licence allow you to carry only
one pistol in particular?

Also, if the gun registration say's "10 shot capacity" can you get in trouble
if you carry 16 rounds in that gun, in a mag made for that gun that doesn't stick out of the mag well?

You can carry any pistol you want with your CPL, you do not need to qualify with anything. I used a P22 for my class.

As for capacity, I don't think anyone cares. I've never heard of anyone being prosecuted for carrying more rounds then stated on their green card. considering the vast majority of auto-loader pistols today can accept a variety of magazines, I don't see how it would even be enforceable.

I carry a G19 which my green card states is 15 round capacity. I often carry a 17 round mag instead. I did something similar with my XD. You don't need the mag to fit flush, either...I could carry a 33 round mag in my Glock if I felt like it. Might be a good idea not to do that just to avoid getting hassled...but there's nothing that says you can't.

When you carry a pistol (Having a CPL) do you need to carry on you that little green inspection card given us at the time of the safety inspection?

It says "Safety Inspection Certificate" not "Registration" or anything about having to keep it with the gun or on you person when you carry that gun.

Anyone know for sure?

Where do you live?

Those of us still living in the Free Zone USA don't get inspected or issued Green Cards.

Of course if you are from south of the border you better keep your green card readily available or our Sherrif Joe will throw you in the slammer then give you a free ride south.

Edit: I should have read the early posts first and noted which forum this message originated in, but didn't. It all still applies though. :anim_lol:

Public Acts 194 – 196 of 2008 amended Michigan’s firearms law by eliminating the pistol safety inspection requirement. Persons purchasing a pistol will no longer be required to present their new pistol to their local police department.
Non-CPL holders will still need to obtain a License to Purchase a Pistol from their local department before purchasing a pistol. CPL holders will still document pistol purchases on a Pistol Sales Record. Two copies of Licenses to Purchase or Pistol Sales Records must be mailed or delivered by the buyer to their local police department within 10 days of acquiring a pistol. Failure to do so is a state civil infraction. Once a department receives either record, they must process them as in the past.
Further, pistol buyers are required to have in their possession their copy of the License to Purchase or Pistol Sales Record for 30 days after they acquire a pistol. There is no requirement to keep a copy of either record after 30 days.

Quite welcome, I'm pleased to see it changed as well as that was one thing I was always worried about, if stopped etc. trying to explain to a LEO why as a non-res I would not have the little green card...

you do not need to carry the green card with you if you have a cpl all the police will do is run the serial number. I know this is a fact because i have been stopped wile carrying it before with out a green card it just takes a little longer in the cop car lol.

And yeah the new law is nice just bought a new pistol the other day it is nice not having to drive it in anymore. but some places have more paper work like gander mountain. You have to fill out four individual forms now one for you one for them and two for the cops
