I know that FN makes a lot of our military weapons, they announce it is every publication.
but do they make a good handgun?
what would you choose and why - FN or XD in 45acp?

Had an XD45 Service, bought it when the first came out. Put a lot of rounds through it and really liked it. Sold same to buy an FNP45 a couple of weeks ago. I think the recoil is as soft or softer than the XD. I like a DA/SA capability in a pistol and I loke a visible hammer. Carried a 1911 for a lot of years and guess I still like to see the hammer. In summary, I've got two FNs, 40 & 45, and a bunch of Sigs. Since the FN design is a lot like that of Sig, I think I just prefer pistols that function and tear down in that manner.
I love my FNP9 - I like it better than the XD9.
Go check out www.fnforum.net for more FN info.
One warning: if you buy the FNP45 you aren't going to find many accessories out there for it. It's a new gun and the accessory companies aren't making sights for it (Hi Viz, etc), holsters, etc.
Yes, it always takes time for such things to occur. It was the same for the Beretta PX4. Ya gotta give it time for accessories to catch up.
Love my FNP 9 but in .45 I'll take my XD-45 or my 4506 S&W
FN all the way, but only 'cause I think it's purtier. Sounds facetious, I know, but the only reason why I don't own an Xd - good though they are - is that I can't abide their looks.
Then again, I used to say that about Glocks, and I now own a 26....
PhilR.
XD's ain't purty, for sure. But my .45 has over 2000 rounds through it without a failure, and the trigger just keeps getting sweeter, and I just keep shooting it better.
I like to buy purty guns, but the XD45 is the one I trust the most.
thanks for the input
i was thinking of the XD but ONLY because it was better than the G21sf
now i have my eyes set on the fnp45
The FNP9 is really nice (not that I'm biased). The .45 has a good rep on the FN Forum, but I haven't tried one myself. Good luck!
EDITED: I had a chance to handle (but not fire) the FNP45 at the shop tonight. Inside, it looks like the FNP9, but about 5% bigger. The slide works the same and the barrel and spring are laid out the same. The decocker lever is different. The slide release lever is located in a better position than the FNP9 (it's closer to the back of the gun and easier to reach). I wish I could do a range report, but the gun selection at the range includes a 9 but not the 45. If it shoots like a 5% bigger 9, it's going to be a winner.
One of the Handgun magazine just had a cover story on this gun. Here is a quick link to it.

Do the FN double stacked magazines rattle when loaded?
It is funny this question came up...Ever since I was at Bass Pro a few months back and looked and handled the FN, I thought it had a great look and a great feel to it...I have an XD9 and an XD45 and I wouldnt get rid of either, I really like that look of the FN...

everyone has to just buy Heckler & Koch then you dont need to ask "this vs that" anymore becuase its the best
i don't really know of H&K
who are they?
How long have they been in business?
they do not appear to be very high on the total sales volumes from the shootingindustry web site.
Where are they made?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heckler_&_Koch
for the less educated!
yea
just kidding
don't take it hard
their total US sales in 2006 was 36,758
the american special forces have used this brand but the place where the heckler & koch is made would never even consider using an american weapon such as cowboy gun, colt, etc, etc
No doubt in my mind about that.
I do like your choices in handguns
Wish I would have gotten the Mosquito other than the P22
Actually today is a day off with the Govt Holiday and I have drank a lot of the clear liquid refreshment this afternoon
