Can anyone recommend a pistol for me?

I am looking for a pistol that has the following characteristics:
*9mm or .40 S&W
*Compact in size (comparable to S&W M&P Compact or SA XD Subcompact)
*DA/SA or DAO
*Manual Safety and/or Decocker preferred

I want something where the hammer/striker has ZERO potential energy - read: "is at rest" - while holstered and until a positive action is done on it (i.e. cocking the hammer, pulling the trigger, etc). Unless my research has failed me, this limits me to DA/SA (with a decocker) or true DAO (like a snubby revolver with a shrouded hammer).

The taurus 24/7 is a true DAO The trigger pull takes some getting used to, but my dad just got the .40 comact and I really like it. its comfortable to shoot and we have had zero malfunctions in about 500 rounds so far. he has been coming out to my house about once a week to use my range and practice with it.

Check out the CZ75b family..Got to be something that fills your requirements.. All steel and darn accurate also,at least the 9mm in my experince..

DAOs to consider

SIG 239DAK, HK USPc LEM, or HK P2000sc

I just got an FNP 40 DASA and it is quite compact in the standard size. Has an exposed hammer, decocker and shoots very well. Recoil is very manageable with Federal 155 gr. Hydrashocks as well as the tamer WWB 165 gr. FMJ rounds. I used to have a Beretta 96 Centurion DAO police turn in and it is compact as well although unless you have large hands you won't like the grip size. I am a fairly large individual and CCW a Beretta 96 or Stoeger Cougar 8000 with no issue. The Stoeger Cougar 8000 in .40 S&W is a great option as well and is very reasonable in cost. I put a Colt Govt. model mainspring in it and it has a great DA pull.

Kel-Tec p-11, or a makarov. 9x18 but still 9mm. decocker, great guns, small (pp/ppk size) but heavy and all steel. Which some of us still also like in a gun.

How about an H&K P7, P7M8 or an S&W 3953?

For now, I've ended up with a S&W 6906 9mm.
