I need help with choosing a .40

So I have shot other pistols and revolvers and own some revolvers but i am contemplating buying a pistol so far i decided on the caliber and looked at a few of them but i need some help with choosing, well i want a .40 for sure but i do not want a glock i have shot a few and dont like how they feel....

So far these are the ones i have been staring at....
I was just wondering if there are any suggestions you guys have....the reason i didnt like the glock was cause it was a tough cookie to shoot the grip did not extend to the bottom of my hand and it seem to shoot better groups at 25yds then it did at 10yds....
I am looking for something that is reliable and does not have many problems also i would like something that shoots pretty accurately.
Any suggestions or comments on the pistols shown will help me decide a bunch or suggestions on other pistols keep in mind that i am in 700 & under dollar range.

Xd is a good choice also don't overlook the adjustable grip M&P. Glocks are good pistols if they fit. I haven't owned any of the others so can't comment further.

When i get back home because I am out of state right now i am most likely going to go rent a few .40's and test some of them out and see what I like best...

Best thing going is the "rent" and "shoot", there are just too many models and makers out there to tell you which is best for you.

First three you listed are good quality and medium priced in my AO.

You go with H&K then your up there in price along with SIG and others of their ilk.

Make sure you fine one that feels good in your hand. Then nothing but practice will make you better. Good luck.

Of those you listed I would definately go with the HK (if it's in your budget). Several years ago I thinned my "accumulation" and used the extra cash to buy higher quality guns. Buy the very best you can afford everytime. You will never be sorry. An $800 gun will always be better than two $400 guns. Just my $.02. :smt028

My $500 XD45 is at LEAST as good as my $1000 Sig P226.

Preference is preference... but there is no where near a 2 to 1 difference in value between the two. They are both ragged-hole-accurate, 99.99% functionally perfect, and for that price, the XD came with more toys. Granted the XD-Gear holster is junk, but the mag holder is fine, and I got 3 mags.

I shot both the Sig P220 ($1200), and the XD45 when I was shopping for a big-bore. I could buy a XD45 Service ($500) and a matching XD9 Subcompact ($600) for the price of the P220...

My 2 cents...

Yes, buy the best that you can afford - but quality does not always increase linearly with cost. No one will convince me that any $1200 gun is twice as good as my $600 P99.

Let me also suggest the P99, if you haven't considered it. Mine is a .40, and I'm very happy with it.

P99? is that a SIG hand gun a link would be nice i am mearly looking for suggestions on the butt load of hand guns i should rent and shoot that is all...I am out of state right now for work and since i am making a bunch of money when i get back home i am adding to my collection a Ruger mini 14 possibly a mossberg 500 and some type of .40 caliber hand gun so any suggestions on what i should rent will help me out so far i am definetly gunna try the ones above if available i would say roughly 700-850$ is what I am willing to spend on a .40...So yah any suggestions on what i should try out will help me narrow down the suspects....also reliability will help me out I know some of you own most guns you all list and you know what is reliable....
Another thing that will help is What should i steer clear from when choosing a .40

No problem. I'm just suggesting buy the best you can afford. Whatever that is. There are a lot of overpriced guns. Don't just go on price. I've owned many guns that were not expensive that functioned and shot very good. I guess I should of said just don't go cheap. Go with the best value.
