New guns with delima

I came into a pretty good deal on a few handguns today. I was able to get a Colt Combat Target .45, Thompson Contender 30-30, and a Ruger MKII target edition. The guy threw in an SKS Chinese 7.62 aswell. All guns are in mint condition. Got them for 1100.00.

Along with the guns he also included a bench with 2 reloaders, dies for bout .45 and 30-30, buckets of brass, 3 boxes of lead, over 1000 primers and close to 1000 rounds of reloaded .45 and 30-30 each. I am a bit shy on shooting someone elses reloads. I know this guy. But I am not sure of his reload abilities. What do ya'll think of shooting someone elses reloads. If I dont shoot them what the heck am I going to do with all those rounds.

Sounds like a pretty good deal just for the guns alone; the other stuff is gravy. :)

Personally, I wouldn't shoot the reloads. Treat them like components, break them down and reuse the primed brass (if you can I.D. the primers) and bullets, and deep-six the powder by spreading it on your lawn (well-scattered, by hand; not left in piles, and NEVER use a mechanical spreader). If you didn't get a bullet puller, find one (collet-type recommended, but a hammer-type will work too, it's just slower/louder) and disassemble the loaded rounds. Keep the bullets segregated by box, in case he used different die settings to load them, and get a case neck expander that does NOT include a decapping pin so you can re-flare the case necks to accept new bullets (take my word for it, you do NOT want to decap a live primer with a decapping pin in a reloading die -- very loud noises will result).

Sounds like you were in the right place at the right time, with enough money in hand. A fairly rare occurrence for me... :smt022:mrgreen:

Thanks DJ and company. Always enjoy my time here at HGF. I also have about 200 boxed rounds but they look pretty old. I think I will do the same with these.
