Hello and welcome. My older brother has one, has had it for about 3 years now, and has about 500 or so rounds through it. I have shot it, and it reminds me of the 1911's I used in the Marines...ages ago. It is a little more accurate than the military ones I shot, but it is quite a bit newer. He has issue with SOME JHP ammo, but not all. The Hornady Critical Defense round runs through his alright, but if the bullet profile has a huge "hollow" in the tip without much profile, then it hangs up. Runs all "ball" ammo just fine.
The issue of 1911's hanging up on JHP isn't new. The original design was done to work on BALL (aka FMJ) ammo and that's what they all run best with.
Some never have a problem, some can be cleaned up to work ok, some will work with different bullet contours, etc. I've had two 3" 1911's that just would NOT work with JHP. But the 5" models I've had work without a problem. My current carry 4" runs 100%. One thing I've notice is that Hornady XTP bullets have a flat contour that seems to invite feed failures in some guns, new or reloads. It seems to depend on the gun, how its feed ramp is made, the quality and condition of the mags, etc. They all count.
If you're looking for a range gun this can be lived with somewhat. If this is a defense gun then it's a totally different game.
I've not had good luck with SA products but most people do. I bought a 1911 Loaded and it was a mess. I think the best buy out there right now is the Ruger family.
But if you have thoroughly checked out that SA and that's what your heart is set on then go for it. I wouldn't be worried about the SA build quality but I'd have to consider the Mil-Spec's configuration. It is a VERY basic old style gun and most of the world has grown beyond that style so be sure you're happy with that level of 'retro'. You may get tired of hammer and slide bite and the minimal sites. It will be expensive to upgrade those later vs. buying them now. There's reasons why most 1911's aren't made like exactly like that anymore.
I bought one on 2004. I have shot thousands of rounds through it and the only problem I had was a crappy 40 dollar Chip McCormick mag that went south on me. The pistol is 100 percent.
Springfield Armory makes or imports great 1911s followed by one of the best customer service/warranty.
