Law Enforcement Carry

I am currently in school for a criminal justice degree, and plan to apply as a law enforcement officer when I graduate. I have been looking around for pistols for my possible side arm, because I want to be trained in and familiar with the pistol I will be carrying, and I came across the Bersa line. I am very much intrigued by the Bersa Thunder Pro series, specifically the 9mm and .40. The problem I am having is which one is better? The specs are almost identical, other than the obvious caliber difference, and they look pretty much the same. Any idea which one would better suit my purposes?

If you want to be profecient with a law enforcement side arm, you should be looking at buying a law enforecment side arm.

A Versa is a nice, low cost entry level pistol, but is not quite cut out for serious duty.

Take a look at your surrounding departments and see what is being issued. Dollars to donuts the departments in your area are issuing Flocks, Smith & Wesssons or Sigs; maybe a couple other brands but those are typically the big three in law enforcement. Some other popular LE guns are Beretta, HK, maybe even FNH.

I am also liking the Beretta 92, but wondering if they manufacture a model that allows for attachments. I am definitely going to get a pistol with a rail on the bottom for an attachment if and when I get one.

Yes, there's the 92A1 which has a rail and the Storm line of pistols has a rail as well.

No police dept. that I know of, carry Bersa's. For the most part, once you are hired, the firearm will be issued to you. You won't have a choice of what you want to carry. Some Sheriff's Depts. do allow a little latitude, but don't count on it.

Bottom line? Just get a gun and practice hitting what you aim at. That's way more important than what kind of gun you'll carry.
