    newb magazine question

Do most popular guns have aftermarket magazines that hold more rounds?

That is why the local dealer recommended a 9mm was for more rounds, as opposed to say a 45.

It depends on the brand and model. In some cases, like in California, the limit on the number of rounds a firearm can hold is set by state law, not by the design of the gun.

there are plenty of options for capacity...

you can get magazines that hold nearly any capacity... it really depends on what you want to do... running around with a 50 round magazine poking out of your 9mm might appeal to some folks... it will surely affect concealability! <

I would suggest not worrying about that so much and work on shot placement.

one of the sponsors has some options you could look at (Copes). I have never had the opportunity to purchase from them, but they are kind enough to support the forum!

Like Scott says, you may be limited by where you live...

I would recommend 9mm for cheaper practice, before higher round-count anyday. The extra rounds may be of benefit, but you need to practice with whatever you purchase...
