    Question P11 for home defense?

    I have the opportunity to buy a P11 for only $200 that has never been used. My wife and I have been looking for an affordable option for a home defense handgun and something to shoot with. From what I can tell the main purpose for a P11 is for concealed carry but for only $200 its tempting to pull the trigger on this even though it wont be used for that purpose unless I get my CCW. I wanted to know what your guys thoughts were on this so please chime in. Also if there is another affordable choice please let me know.

    I'm sure there are P11s used for home protection. I have one but due to heavy trigger, light weight & short sight radius, I don't shoot it as well as PF9s or P3AT. Your wife probably needs to try the trigger and working the slide to chamber a round. If you both could shoot it first, even better. A good used 38 sp/357(loaded w/ 38s) revolver might work better for first handgun.

    IMHO I do not consider any Kel-Tec to be reliable enough to trust my life to. There are just too many better guns out there. Once again, just my opinion.

    After doing some more reading and from your replies I have decided to pass on this gun. I don't think it will suit either one of us. We will be adjusting our budget to be able to afford a good reliable handgun.

    One other thing... if it's primarily for home defense, why buy a small gun?(size wise) Get a full sized 9mm or higher. You'll benefit from the longer sight radius and larger magazine capacity.

    I did not care for my P11.

    It has a heavy trigger, light weight, short sight radius, and kicks more than other 9mm.

    I sold mine.

    IMHO you could spend a little more and get a good quality brand of gun.

    I like a Sig, a Beretta or a Ruger in 9mm.

    I believe both you and your wife will enjoy them much more.

    I got to try my bro's P11 at the range last weekend. The size and overall ergos of the gun are fine except for one BIG complaint.

    It has the worst DA trigger I have ever pulled. Your never certain when it's going to fire.

    I and several of my friends with CCW find the P11 a great CC gun. Very reliable and dependable. Shoots every bullet size we have put through them. However, for a first time user in a home defense situation, the better advice was to have a revolver on hand. Simple, point and shoot.
