One of my cow-orkers has been making noises about selling his P-40. Any flaws specific to the model I should be aware of? Also, does $250 sound about right for an opening offer on the piece?
tghe P-40 is no longer made, but i think the only difference between that and the p-11 was.. a difference (not exactly sure) in the mag, and barrel obviously. They are (in the right groups) a sought for weapon, but i have heard (havent shot) that they are really snappy. I know some feel the P-11 is snappy (9mm) so i would assume the same platform with a hotter round would be more so.
I love my p-11, and if i was looking at the .40S&W round, would love a barrel etc for it. But have too many claibers as it is now. But, the P-40, then maybe a 9mm barrel and mags......
The price seems to be about what i would expect for gun, mag (or 2) in goodshape. They seem to be going for about that for full gun or conversion kits on another location.
Had a P40 as well a a curent P11... The recoil on the P40 was savage. The platform in .40 was very sensitive to limp wristing. Not as relible as the (older) P11.
If you really want the P40 I would test shoot it lie 50 rounds first to see if it's what you want.
I would also make sure you inspect the gun very thoroughly, making sure it's been well taken care of. I'll 2nd test firing the gun. That's a great way to ensure that you know what you're getting. Let us know what you wind up doing!
I stand corrected on the parts that are the same in them.. the slide, guide springs and barrel were all different. New p-11s run about $300 here in eastern NY
