I go to several, I live in Elgin so I have Gatt Guns RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER...nOT BAD BUT SOMETIMES THERE IS A LONG WAIT.aNOTHER IS iLLINOIS GUNWORKS. iTS ON gRAND AVE. jUST WEST OF HARLEM AVE. CHEAP, NO FRILLS BUT YOU CAN SHOOT AWAY AND NO ONE BOTHERS YOU.Then there's MidWest guns on Plaindfield rd. and First ave. Pretty nice very organized.

Im in Yorkville and am looking for a range as well... I guess Mega Sports and J.R.'s are all close, but Ive heard the guys at Mega Sports are dicks and J.R.'s Prices are really high

I go to Mega Sports a lot and the help there is always cordial and helpful. Maybe they seem difficult if they are helping someone else and you have a "simple question". In sales there is no such thing. There is plenty of help around if you wander around. The manager at the rental section seems like he is too busy to help you but there are plenty of other guys there who do help. I've been told by many different people that they like to employ off duty LEOs so perhaps they come across a little different than the average Joe. If you like to browse, leave your wallet at home and spend a day in there. You'll walk out saying "wow, nice place!".

Like with everything, you will find some people that love it and others will hate it.
We have shot at MegaSports and JR. I like JR because it's closer. A little more $$ but we save that in time getting to and from.

Both stores are high on some things, fair on others.


For absolutely the best shooting fun we often go to Buffalo Shooting Range.
Although it's all outdoors you can shoot there from April through November.
Lots of range choices for handguns, rifles, shot guns and a plinking pit!

As ranges go they have only a few rules but are very strict on them. (like you are banned forever)

NO PHOTOS of anything.


But you can bump fire!

Live right in the city: usually go to Midwest Guns in Lyons. 15 slots, no long waits except Sat. morning.
