Steyr and 'yotes!

I sighted in the new Steyr Scout yesterday. Accurate as all get-out, easily printing .75" groups at 100 yards with plain-jane Federal 150s bought at WalMart. Felt recoil was lighter than expected for a 7-pound .308, though I had to get off the bench after 30 or so rounds. Shooting from field positions was even more comfortable. Bolt work was smooth and easy. The barrel heats up fast, though, so I had some downtime. Luckily I brought a Glock to while away the time. :mrgreen:

I'm heading out with Bill King and some other Galco folks to chase some coyotes. We'll be camping Friday night and then, with any good fortune, shooting 'yotes early Saturday morning. This will be my first chance to blood the Scout. Wish us luck!

Well, we didn't see any coyotes, just a lot of rabbits and birds.

However, I was treated to a gorgeous sunrise over the mountains as I sat in my hide site atop a hill overlooking a small valley, my excellent rifle in my hands, surrounded by nature and my good friends. You can have a successful hunt without firing a shot.

.308 is indeed a bit on the hefty side for coyotes. But the Steyr is by far my favorite rifle, and is super-versatile. I tried to get some of the Remington Managed Recoil ammo for the hunt, but no one in the Phoenix area had any in stock.
